🛑 Halifax’s port is more than a global gateway—it’s a backbone for thousands of families. PSA’s automation plan would hurt our community, replacing workers with robots. Halifax deserves better!
Let’s push back against PSA’s plan—take action now! 📢

Robots don’t pay taxes, eat at local restaurants, or support families in #Halifax. Port workers do. PSA’s automation plan threatens jobs and our community.

PSA Halifax's automation plans will impact the families of 750 direct employees (longshoremen, checkers, gearmen) and thousands of trucking and support workers.

What does Halifax gain from container terminal automation? Nothing.
Robots won't pay taxes or support local businesses. PSA profits, while our city bears 4x more container traffic 24/7 with no benefit to citizens.

Automation will drain Halifax of the benefits of hosting the container terminal. Robots aren’t made here, won’t pay taxes, won’t spend locally, and definitely won’t raise families. PSA, a foreign-owned company, gets richer while Halifax grows poorer. More containers, less benefit.
PSA plans to automate the Port of Halifax, replacing local jobs with machines and closing it off to the public, turning it into a lifeless site.
The Union has offered to hire and train workers needed to boost port capacity, but PSA's response? "No thanks, we want to automate."
Let’s stand together to keep the port a place for people, not robots.

Automation means the revenue generated by Halifax hosting the container terminal will go elsewhere. These robots won't be made here, pay taxes here, or raise families here.
Halifax will be poorer but PSA, a foreign owned company, will get richer.

A few months ago, Halifax PSA chief executive Jan Van Mossevelde told the union about its plans to handle more shipping containers.
“He wants to double the volume and wants to keep the workforce at the same level,” Kevin Piper, president of the Halifax International Longshoremen’s Association “Our position is if you’re going to double the volume, then the workforce should also double.”
Automation also means no public use or interaction at the Port - runners, families, activities enjoyed by locals and tourists in the south end of Halifax will be completely restricted.

Automation means humans will not be involved in the movement of containers at the Halifax Port. Machines (remote controlled) will control the offloading, moving and loading of containers 24/7.
