I hope I am wrong. Maybe Iran is just playing along. Maybe those in charge have infinitely more faith, restraint and intellect than I’ll ever have. I really do hope that.

But to those who, very understandably, are arguing for more diplomacy:

Here’s the reality:

Iran poses an existential threat to the US unlike perhaps any other country in history.

Not because of the Strait of Hormuz, oil, or any nuclear weapons or missiles - but because of what Iran represents: successful resistance - that one country that has gotten away.
Which also happens to be a proud civilization with a unique combination of historical importance and self-consciousness, vast resources, human potential, self sustainability, resilience and determination.
But, even more importantly, because of the Idea Iran represents: a moral counterbalance and counter-narrative in a world where no one else has the courage and determination to.

Iran cannot be allowed to exist.

And this simple truth is reflected in every single aspect of US politics towards Iran since the early 50s.

So good luck negotiating with people who have been trying to destabilize and sabotage your country from naturally becoming a superpower again - not just for the past 47 years but decades prior to that.
Good luck negotiating with people who are not only threatening to murder you and your families if you don’t accept their terms- but have actually done that. Not once but repeatedly.
Good luck negotiating with people who are committing genocide in broad daylight.
Good luck negotiating with people who have just completely taken over Venezuela.
Good luck negotiating with people who have blocked Cuba from receiving oxygen during a pandemic and currently preparing to turn Cuba into the next Gaza.
Good luck negotiating with people who are even dumber than they’re wicked, admitting they’re running out of munition and oil.
Good luck negotiating with people who couldn’t care less about losing militarily as long as war itself, profit and endless chaos and destabilization continues.
Good luck negotiating with people who have never once kept their word in any deal made with you.
Good luck negotiating with people who are dismantling the entire international system of law and order in real time.

This isn’t about the Epstein class, Trump or any other administration. This is about an empire that isn’t in control of itself.

This is about an empire that spent years negotiating a deal. In good faith!
The best of US politics, as it seemed - the eloquent constitution law professor with a respectable team of senior diplomats and nuclear experts.
And they faltered almost immediately to their own billionaire donors, their own corrupt Party structures, leaders and to Israel.

As long as the US political system remains an international auction house for political prostitutes, it cannot and should not be trusted.

It can only be forced to accept a reality.
