The first source used to substantiate the claim that François Letexier, the French referee of the Argentina-Egypt match, is of Orthodox Jewish was this Grok post on X.

It was inserted into the article by User:Maqaumat, who also inserted the false claim, and is now blocked.

Grok may have referenced the Wikipedia article to substantiate this claim, a case of what Wikipedia calls "citogenesis"—journalist cites a Wikipedia entry in a story; Wikipedia cites the story in the entry—but at AI scale.
