@youfreakinnerd Yeah I totally agree!!!
I don't support Asano's statement as much as I want to *understand* where it's coming from. AI shouldn't be a solution, we should discourage it, but the backlash on individual creators is unproductive imo
@youfreakinnerd Like it's GOOD that publishers are disallowing AI, and we should keep that pressure.
But I've seen a lot of people attack Asano's character and art because of this statement ("I always knew he was a hack" etc), and I don't think that mindset is gonna work well in the long run
Even if you are vehemently anti-AI in this space (like me), shaming individual creators who even *suggest* AI could be helpful is NOT very productive. The critiques need to be aimed at the systems, not the users.
Excellent discussion by Dr. Fatima: https://t.co/jxjrlPk316
The discourse around GenAI is so radioactive that even some of the most accomplished creators get their artist card revoked by the anti-AI mob for even suggesting the technology could be useful in reducing labor-time for manga which famously ruins artists' health & social lives.

@youfreakinnerd I agree, I think he's ignoring or diminishing the vast labor the models are built on.
idk maybe Asano isn't the best example, but I don't want to hold pro artists to that squeaky clean standard in this environment. The pressure to use AI and lighten the load is probably huge
If an artist finds AI useful, we should be asking:
- could that model still exist if its training data was acquired ethically?
- would AI in the manga industry *actually* improve working conditions, or create worse incentives & expectations for unrealistic output?
After several months of animating (and procrastinating), finally finished this short fan animation parody of toe's Loneliness will Shine featuring Bocchi the Rock!

This is absolutely not the case. Azuma's point is not that narrative can be replaced by supplementary material or whatnot, but rather that the way in which reading occurs involves both the narrative but also metatextual elements of said narrative. Consider pornography.
I’m gonna sound like an old head here because this is so far out of my wheelhouse LOL!
I learned this is called a “V-Tuber”. It’s an Austria woman who like, streams using an avatar and she has over FIFTEEN THOUSAND people in her watch along all cheering and chatting about the match together. Just so much passion from every corner of the globe!
I just think it’s so dope how everyone can consume the beautiful game in their own ways and how much this is bringing people together.
Beautiful
thank you Nintendo for not showing a second more of Zelda so that we get to enjoy a couple months worth of discourse on video game stylization vs realism based entirely off a dark 5 second clip
this week has been awesome, can you imagine how fun it'd be if all of these were bundled together in some sort of electronic entertainment expo lol thatd be cute i think
