Day 99 of a new government
There are 2,734 people in prison serving IPP today. It was abolished almost 12 years ago.
When is enough enough?
@Keir_Starmer@ShabanaMahmood@JamesTCobbler
@JENGbA mourn the sad passing of our first Patron Lord Herman Ouseley who recognised the injustice of #jointenterprise charging leading to unjust and racist convictions. Rest in Power Herman
Looking well pleased with Lord Farmer at the Manchester The Long Stretch launch. I haven’t read the report findings yet but the speakers have blown it out the water. @POPSFamilies@PRTuk Beyond a doubt the prison system is barbaric for both prisoners & families @JENGbA
Sat with some of the @JENGbA mums in tears in listening to a mum speak about the devastation of losing her two sons to a long sentence in prison. Now Lord Farmer. @POPSFamilies@PRTuk Change is paramount
This week, about 1,500 people will leave prisons in England and Wales under an early release scheme as the government tries to tackle an overcrowding crisis.
How did we reach this point? Read our guide to prison overcrowding: https://t.co/kGb1tvLsS9
@JENGbA So please on the 2nd October remember there are innocent men, women & children who haven’t & won’t go home for at least another decade. All because of #badlaw & the disgraceful belief there’s a thing as #WrongPlaceWrongTime
No it’s #jointenterprise it’s #injustice & it’s #immoral
The government still doesn't get it: I'm not saying that we should stop locking up criminals.
But thousands of young people have been thrown in prison for things they didn't do.
The Supreme Court is right: we've taken a wrong turn. It's time for reform.
#EndGuiltByAssociation
A prison audit will reveal the cause, & i bet my eye teeth it’s #JointEnterprise or maybe it’s time to start listening to @JENGbA campaigners who have been warning Parliamentarians for 14years how joint enterprise is not only immoral, it’s unsustainable.
Lucy Letby's Parents Susan, 63 and John, 78, express their “heartfelt thanks” to those questioning her guilt.
And they hope the support will boost their efforts to overturn what they describe as “the biggest miscarriage of justice in British legal history”
The big questions the @JENGbA campaigns faced today were not about the law. Instead it was WHY has nothing been done about #jointenterprise?
Why are you still waiting for #justice 👇🏽
