Halton Regional Police have charged an Etobicoke man with more than 15 firearms and drug trafficking offences after a traffic stop at a Burlington gas station in the early hours of last Wednesday.
Officers pulled over a vehicle at the Petro Canada on Walkers Line and Harvester Road at approximately 4 a.m. The driver, Leslie Princem, 46, was wearing a face covering at the time. A search of the vehicle turned up two loaded Glock handguns, approximately 50 grams of crack cocaine, roughly 150 oxycodone pills, 150 Xanax pills, and 40 hydromorphone pills.
Princem is facing charges including impaired operation, multiple counts of unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm, and four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. He was also found to be subject to a firearms prohibition order at the time of arrest.
North Oakville's newest community hub is officially open. The expanded Sixteen Mile Sports Complex celebrated its grand opening on May 31 with a free family event featuring pickleball, yoga, lacrosse, and face painting.
The 65,000-square-foot complex includes a fitness centre, gymnasium, community rooms, and an 18,000-square-foot Oakville Public Library branch featuring a Children's Area, Discovery Zone, Community Living Room, Mezzanine, Laptop Bar, and Quiet Study Room.
The site also features a playground, bike pump track, all-wheel park, outdoor fitness station, cricket and sports fields, and a dog park. Aquatic facilities and outdoor courts for basketball, pickleball, tennis and beach volleyball are coming this summer.
Oakville's Frank and Janice Lochan have donated $4.1 million to Western University's Schulich Medicine and Dentistry to establish the Frank and Janice Lochan Chair in Neuroimaging for Brain Health and the Lochan Postdoctoral Fellowship Fund in Neuroscience.

Halton Regional Police have charged a Halton Hills man with impaired driving following a collision near Limehouse on June 6. Officers responded to the crash and laid charges following their investigation.

A 59-year-old Oakville man has been charged with break and enter and possession of break-in instruments after Halton Regional Police responded to an incident at Golden Leaf Restaurant on Kerr Street at 11:30 p.m. on May 29.
The suspect was arrested at the scene.
A passenger bus caught fire on the Burlington Skyway bridge Thursday afternoon at approximately 4:45 p.m. Ontario Provincial Police say all passengers were safely evacuated from the bus and no one was injured.
The right shoulder and right lane of the Toronto-bound QEW were temporarily closed while emergency crews responded to the scene. All lanes have since reopened.
The Town of Halton Hills has successfully prosecuted an illegal truck terminal operation on Eighth Line. Nishan GTA Inc. and its director were each convicted of zoning and site alteration offences, including an illegal land use charge, failing to obtain site alteration permits, and failing to comply with a site alteration order.
The convictions resulted in $35,000 in fines and a court prohibition order requiring restoration of the property. Mayor Ann Lawlor says the town actively enforces its bylaws to protect farmland and quality of life in Halton Hills.
The Province's proposed Bill 119, which passed second reading, would give municipalities additional tools to address illegal land uses if approved.

Halton Regional Police have dealt a major blow to organized auto theft in Oakville with the completion of two separate investigations.
Project Joker began in April 2026 after a Lexus was stolen from the Bronte GO Station parking lot. Investigators identified two Montreal men, Dany Hamel-Poirier, 27, and Damian Daneau, 20, who are collectively linked to more than 100 vehicle thefts across the GTHA. Hamel-Poirier was already wanted by multiple Ontario and Quebec police services at the time of his arrest.
Project Disconnect targeted a separate group responsible for 28 vehicle thefts and attempted thefts from Oakville hotel parking lots since January 1. Two Brampton men, Jobanpreet Singh, 21, and Atish Singh, 26, were arrested May 27 after being caught mid-theft at an Oakville hotel. Police seized a stolen Dodge Durango, OBD readers, blank keys, and break-and-enter tools.
All four accused are in custody pending bail hearings in Milton
Metrolinx has officially started construction on the expansion of Oakville GO Station, the busiest stop on the Lakeshore West line and second only to Union Station across the entire GO network.
The project is part of Metrolinx's $15 billion GO Expansion program and will include rehabilitated platforms with accessibility upgrades, a new pedestrian bridge, elevators and staircases to platforms and parking, and architectural, mechanical and electrical upgrades.
A temporary widened joint platform will be built to maintain customer access to trains throughout construction. No completion date has been announced.

Halton Regional Police have arrested and charged Sankalp Singh, 28, following a sexual assault in Georgetown.
The incident occurred near James and Draper Streets shortly after 7 p.m. on Monday, when the victim, a teenage girl, was walking when an unknown man approached her and allegedly sexually assaulted her.
Singh has been charged with sexual assault, invitation to sexual touching, and sexual interference. Police have released an image of Singh and say they believe there may be additional victims.
Halton Regional Police are asking for the public's help identifying two male suspects following a vendor payment change fraud at a Burlington business in August 2025.
The first suspect received $42,058.60 in fraudulent funds and used them at banks, currency exchanges, and merchants across the GTA. A second suspect attended a currency exchange in Mississauga and received a portion of the funds.
Suspect one is described as a Black male, 25 to 30 years old, five foot eight to five foot ten, medium build. Suspect two is described as a South Asian male, 20 to 25 years old, five foot seven to five foot eight, medium build.
The Humane Society of Oakville, Milton and Halton is asking the community for urgent support after taking in 27 cats and kittens from a single Milton household on May 28.
The cats range in age from three months to three years. None had previously received veterinary care and all will need full medical treatment before being available for adoption. One cat underwent emergency surgery for pyometra, a life-threatening uterine infection.
A coyote was caught on CCTV chasing a child near Third Line and Rebecca Street in Oakville, an area residents say has had an ongoing coyote problem for months.
A den has been identified on a route children use to walk to school.

Halton Regional Police are investigating a serious collision near Speers Road and St. Augustine Drive in Oakville after a 43-year-old male cyclist was struck by a white sedan on May 29 at approximately 6:51 p.m.
The cyclist was transported to an out-of-region trauma hospital with serious injuries. Due to the severity of the collision the Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken carriage of the investigation. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

On Britannia Road between Thompson Road and Eighth Line, drivers were recorded travelling 35 to 45 km/h above the posted 70 km/h speed limit.
