Hong Kong Watch patron, Lord Patten on BBC World:
Apple Daily closure is "profoundly sad". Beijing are setting out "destroying the freedoms, the liberties and eroding the rule of law in Hong Kong."
The men barely knew each other before crossing the South China Sea to Taiwan. ‘We were scared to death,’ one said of their journey.

This is yet another crackdown on the press freedom in Hong Kong. The National Security Law is not a law to achieve "security", but only to turn Hong Kong into an Orwellian state. The international community must not turn a blind eye to this.

Because of the Tiananmen Massacre of 4 June 1989, China is the country it is today.
Because of the six weeks of peaceful, nationwide democracy protests that preceded the massacre, there is hope that China will one day change.
I am still very worried about my dearest friend Agnes Chow, who is still in prison and suffering from political suppression. Hope that the governments in democratic countries can put more effort to pressure the Chinese regime to release political prisoners in Hong Kong.
The freedoms and democratic rights that people in Hong Kong enjoy are being eradicated more and more every day. The UK government needs more than just strong words, it needs to impose sanctions on those responsible. https://t.co/7EeM7iNjd9
