Caleb Malhotra (25-26) vs Brady Martin (24-25)
Different playstyles but some profile similarities
- late riser
- high entry attempts, high puck touch
- high slot pass attempts, could shoot more
- skating could improve
- Top 6, two-way C projection, 1C if it all goes right
Logan Stankoven is out here ripping apart the Stanley Cup Playoffs as a 5-foot-8 centre.
And we’re still going to watch teams convince themselves Viggo Björck is too small to draft early.
Caleb Malhotra has one of the most fascinating statistical profiles in the draft.
BCHL (DY-1): 0.59 P/GP
OHL (DY): 1.25 P/GP, then 1.73 P/GP in the playoffs
I compared his production jump using NHLe to similar Cs taken in the 1st round:
Aatu Räty Oct 21 - Nov 15
12:16 5v5 TOI
46 DZone Starts (4th among NHL Fs)
50.5 xGF%, 53.9 GF% (1st on #Canucks in both)
5 5v5 Points (3rd on Canucks)
After Kämpf was signed Nov 15, Räty averaged 10:30 at 5v5 and was scratched 14 times the rest of the season
Pending UFAs Evander Kane (14:10) and Teddy Blueger (14:09) were the two most used Forwards at 5v5, meanwhile Raty, Karlsson and Lekkermaki averaged 10:48, 10:46 and 9:47
Some people wanted Foote to stay around for tanking purposes, but the risk was just too big from a development perspective with how bad the #Canucks were in their own end.
For this team to get better, they need someone like Manny so the youth can develop, especially the young D.
Cootes in the 2026 #WHLPlayoffs so far:
• 7g | 13a | 20pts in 16 games despite avg. just 17:46 TOI/Game (PA spreads out fwd TOI)
• 65.3 xGF% at 5v5
• 1st in successful 5v5 pass to slot attempts (29)
• 4.49 xGF/60 WOI at 5v5 (4th among WHL fwds, 1st on PA)
This is the "clock's ticking" list of 2022 1st and 2nd rounders who haven't yet established themselves as full-time NHLers and pretty much need to next season.
(Bolded have played partial meaningful 20+ GP NHL seasons)
The #Canucks drop to 3rd overall, as the Maple Leafs (#1) and the San Jose Sharks (#2) win the two draws at the 2026 NHL Draft Lottery.
It is the 7th time in Vancouver's franchise history that the club has moved down at the NHL draft lottery. The club has never moved up.
I don't think the #Canucks are ready for the backlash they'll face in this market if Pierre Dorion is hired as GM. That would legitimately be the last straw for a lot of fans with this team
Caleb Malhotra is one of the best #2026NHLDraft eligibles in the set
Made a huge difference for a great team in every way. Really solid stuff.
Shoutout @TheProspectDon following this one
Chase Reid was one of the best players in the entire CHL this year
One of the few chart-breakers on the back of some game-breaking play-driving.
Best defense is a good offense to boot
My top defenseman for good reason #2026NHLDraft
Braeden Cootes was a great, well-rounded impact this season. Filled multiple roles. Reliable every shift.
A standout in the WHL and a great #Canucks prospect
#Canucks With/Without Hoglander on ice at 5v5 (last 10 GP):
With:
Goals: 1-2
xGoals: 3.94-2.89 (57.7%)
Shots: 35-34 (50.7%)
Without:
Goals: 13-34
xGoals: 13.26-21.97 (37.6%)
Shots: 157-224 (41.2%)
*Hoglander has played in last 8/10 games
#Canucks Jake DeBrusk has scored 86% of his goals on the power play (18/21)
This is the highest rate of any 20 goal scorer since the NHL began tracking PPGs in 1977/78
