Hi, I am the mother of Elizabeth Mercedes Hernandez, a Nurse Practitioner, devoted mother of five, and a woman who was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for a crime she did not commit.

My name is Elizabeth Mercedes Hernandez. I am a Nurse Practitioner, a daughter, a sister, and most importantly, a mother of five beautiful children who need me. I am not a criminal.

For more than a decade, I dedicated my life to caring for patients with compassion, honesty, and integrity. I worked tirelessly to serve my community and help those who depended on me.

Today, I am serving a 20-year federal sentence for a crime I did not commit. I have already spent nearly three years behind bars, separated from my children and missing moments that can never be replaced.

I was hired through a recruiting company to review medical charts. Like many healthcare professionals, I trusted that the companies I worked with were operating legally and ethically. Later, I learned that my professional credentials had been misused without my knowledge. Despite this, I was held responsible and convicted after refusing to accept a plea deal for something I did not do. I chose to fight for the truth and exercise my constitutional right to a trial.

Even after the Department of Health reviewed my case and officially closed its investigation in 2024, confirming I was not involved in wrongdoing, I remain in federal prison.

Today I am more than 500 miles away from my family. I have not been able to physically hug my children in over a year. My children still cry for me. My youngest cannot understand why Mommy is gone. They cannot understand why I am not there to tuck them into bed, help with homework, celebrate birthdays, comfort them when they are sick, or simply tell them “I love you” face to face.

The true punishment is not only mine. It is theirs.

Five innocent children are serving a sentence alongside their mother. They have lost precious years that can never be returned. Birthdays, holidays, school events, and everyday moments that make up a childhood have all been stolen from us.

I am not asking for pity. I am asking for prayers, mercy, justice, and the opportunity to return home to my children. I want the chance to rebuild our lives, heal as a family, and once again serve my community with the same dedication and compassion that guided me throughout my career.

The IRS sent armed agents into a family bakery and drained $68,382 from its bank account.

Their “crime”? Depositing their OWN CASH in amounts under $10,000.

Then the government demanded ANOTHER $160,000 and a guilty plea to a FELONY.

The IRS called it “structuring”: deliberately keeping deposits small to dodge bank reporting rules.

DAVID VOCATURA: “I said to them, ‘Maybe I should get a lawyer.’ And they said, ���You don’t need one, step in the back.’”

“Until the day they came in, I had no idea what structuring was.”

“I’m a law-abiding citizen. I can’t remember the last time I got a speeding ticket.”

Nearly three years after seizing the money, a prosecutor came back with a deal that carried up to FOUR YEARS IN PRISON:

DAVID VOCATURA: “They wanted us to pay another additional $160,000 in fines and plead to a felony charge of structuring.”

They refused.

You bake bread for three generations.
You pay your taxes.
You put your own money in the bank.
And the IRS treats you like a criminal, demanding nearly a quarter million dollars.

CONTEXT: Fortunately, the IRS didn’t get away with this one. Hours after the Institute for Justice sued, the IRS agreed to return all $68,382.22. Two weeks later, it withdrew a grand jury subpoena demanding eight years of the bakery’s business records. Crazy that they tried to ruin a business over depositing money into their own bank account.

Masked thug in Illinois gets what he deserves after he picks on the WRONG GUY at the gas station.

He walks up to a driver pumping gas and points a stolen gun at him.

Big mistake. In under a second, the law-abiding citizen draws his gun and fires.

He was a concealed carry license holder.

The would-be robber never got a shot off. He dropped, then ran away limping.

Police caught him quickly. Turns out the car he drove there was stolen, too. Now he has to answer for that AND the robbery attempt.

A member of the family that owns the station summed the encounter perfectly: “It’s really nice to see that guy defend himself in the way that everybody SHOULD be able to.”

When gun-thieving politicians try to take your guns away, the only people left with them are the government and the bad guys.

The only thing that stopped this stolen gun was a legal one.

Major is a Belgian Malinois service dog.

He has spent more than 545 days alone in an isolation kennel at the Austin Animal Center.

No walks.

No pets.

No people.

Now the city wants to put him down.

Here's what happened:

* March 2025, a pickup truck hit Major.

* He was hurt and in pain, and a woman who stopped to help tried to lift him into a car.

* He bit her.

* A municipal judge ordered him euthanized as a danger to the public.

* His human, Shane Lilly, has fought it through the Texas Supreme Court ever since.

Now a federal judge has put the euthanasia on hold and is expected to decide within days whether an independent trainer can evaluate Major for rehabilitation.

More than 54,000 people have signed the petition to free him.
