Peter Murrell was not a criminal mastermind he just took advantage of a system devoid of adequate checks & balances and a culture where scrutiny and questioning were demonised. That culture has infected the Scottish government, our Parliament & our civic life. It needs to change.
Absolutely extraordinary — this wasn’t domestic abuse based on a power in-balance between a man and a woman: you were first minister of Scotland, he was the CEO of the party you led, and the money was not your’s anyway: it was donated by ordinary independence supporters. While you were reading books from your handcrafted bookcases, writing with your luxury pens, drinking coffee from your top of the line coffee machines , and carrying your papers around in designer folders and bags using money he stole, women up and down the country were — as they have always been — suffering real financial abuse (and worse) by controlling men. As First Minister and leader of the SNP you had real legal and moral responsibilities to ensure that your CEO acted above the law and did not squander the money for his and your own domestic bliss. We know from the evidence released so far you chose to abrogate those responsibilities by repeatedly blocking colleagues’ attempts to investigate. Conflating what you did with thousands of women who suffer domestic abuse from their husbands might be clever rhetoric but shows a shocking attempt to make their suffering your own for personal and political gain.
If we’ve learned one thing over the last week, it’s that nobody in the SNP knows how to read a set of accounts. They barely even know what accounts are. Which explains why Scot Gov is heading for a fiscal trainwreck, & why the financial case for independence simply doesn’t exist.
@ShepherdWales@mgt_coull26 Living in her First Minister world where she had a chauffer driven car, why be interested in her husband's very nice jag in the driveway. Or maybe she cannot recollect seeing it there.
This pic makes it clear why it was so easy to miss the camper van parked beside her mother in law’s house 🤣
And why even if she saw it, she’d think it was the neighbour’s 🤣
But it doesn’t explain why she never said to her mother in law — you happy having that hulk parked so close to your house? How long will it be there? 🤣
Don’t be fooled. Nicola Sturgeon (wife) is not being held responsible for her husband’s crimes. As leader of the party she is being called to account for her deliberate frustration of the legitimate scrutiny which might have revealed those crimes. The distinction is 💯 clear.
This from the man who
a) dismissed the call for an enquiry into the huge Murrell scandal
b) presided over the lowest vote for indy parties
His arrogance knows no bounds but then he appointed Murrell & has accepted NO responsibility for anything
The SNP's defence gets worse by the day.
"Peter Murrell was so good at covering his tracks that nobody noticed."
Not Nicola Sturgeon.
Not John Swinney.
Not the NEC.
Not the auditors.
A party that couldn't keep track of its own money wants full control of Scotland's finances?
It's hard to escape the conclusion that those who failed in governance of the SNP are now governing Scotland.🤔
I can't think of any company, institution or organisation where heads wouldn't roll for this level of mismanagement, be it complicity, cover up or sheer incompetence.
