What an amazing way to end the day in Wichita at @wichitabrewing! There’s nothing better than connecting with supporters over our shared passion for improving lives for Kansans. I loved hearing what your vision is for our country and how we deserve better than what we’re getting from Washington. This is how we build a movement! Thank you again!
I just finished a touching visit at HumanKind Ministries. We learned about how they have helped to address housing insecurity in the Wichita area for 135 years. It’s organizations like this that remind us what it truly means to serve our communities and to treat our neighbors as we would want to be treated. That’s the sort of Kansas Values we need from our Senators in Washington.
In Newton I got to meet the owners of Prairy, a food and lifestyle brand dedicated to celebrating our Great Plains. They started from one food cooperative in 2000 to four buildings serving as a hub of entrepreneurship in Newton today. All along the way, they’ve honored the heritage tallgrass prairie that makes our state so unique. I’m in awe of what they’ve created. We need Washington to get out of the way so more Kansans can have the opportunity to build their own better tomorrow.
We kicked off our day at Gravel City Roasters, where we had Emporia’s best coffee and pastries. I was blessed to sit down with fellow United Methodist Church pastors and pray for our amazing state. I heard from Kansans who told me how they’re being squeezed by the cost of everything: groceries, gas, and the healthcare they need for their families. They told me how decisions out of Washington are only making life harder, and the leaders we have just aren’t listening to their concerns. Kansans know we deserve better than we’re getting now.
Last Saturday, LaVon and I had the chance to celebrate one of Kansas’s greatest trailblazers, Amelia Earhart, at her hanger museum in Atchison. It was amazing to see the last remaining model of the plane from her attempt to fly around the world. Our state has such an amazing legacy of women making history. Amelia Earhart’s fearlessness is an inspiration to us all. Together, we as Kansans can leave the world a better place than we found it.
Yesterday I spent a fantastic day in Pittsburg listening to what Kansans are looking for in a leader in Washington. I especially loved learning how folks are pitching in and helping their neighbors. Kansas Values are all about how community is more important than party. As I told the Morning Sun, you can be a champion for people, you can fight for what’s right without demeaning people, without belittling them. Jesus talks about love your neighbor, but he also says love your enemy. Those are the kind of values we need right now in DC.

Great last stop today and great crowd in Crawford County – loved connecting with fellow Kansans who are passionate about our state and how to fix the current chaos coming out of Washington. It’s time for leadership that cares about affordability and cares about actually listening to Kansan voices.
Today I had the privilege of visiting the Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas. It is our state’s largest Federally Qualified Health Center, and we cannot thank them enough for everything they do to care for Kansans. Decisions in Washington have made healthcare unaffordable for far too many families! We need to do better.
After lunch, I got to stop at the Pitt State Research and Economic Development hub. All I can say is, “Wow!” It was inspiring to see how the space has been transformed to support Kansas students and businesses. I share their passion for transforming today into a better tomorrow!
I stopped for a delicious lunch at The Balkan in Pittsburg today and had the opportunity to meet with local pastor Daniel Reffner and his colleagues. After eating we prayed together about building a future we can be proud of for our state.
This morning, we had a really meaningful visit with the Wesley House food pantry in Pittsburg. We heard how they're helping working families who are struggling to pay for groceries they need thanks to the failed policies coming from Washington. For 38 years, I’ve preached about loving our neighbors and doing our part to make our world a better place – more like the world we believe it should be. The Wesley House is doing exactly that in their community. As your senator, we’ll put people over politics and do what’s right for all Kansans.
Our second stop of the day was the Atchison Farmers’ Market. It’s turned into a beautiful day to grab some fresh food and hear from you about what new leadership can do for our state. Thank you to those of you who joined me this morning, including our local Democratic County Chair. The best part of campaigning is meeting and hearing from you. We’re going to win this thing and bring new leadership – listening and fighting for all of us!
This morning, I got to visit Harbor Lights Coffee House in Leavenworth, KS. It was inspiring to sit down and hear from so many of you about what you’re looking for in your next Senator.
I was so thrilled to meet with Leavenworth County Democrats and hear what I can do for your community. As your senator, I’m ready to be a champion for Kansans and bring your voice to Washington!
At a time when Kansas families are struggling with the cost of living, Roger Marshall voted for a law that's now stripped food assistance from more than 10,000 of our children — even as grocery prices keep climbing.
I don't believe that reflects who we are. Every child in Kansas deserves to know where their next meal is coming from. That's just basic decency, and it's a Kansas value.
When I'm your senator, I'll put people before politics and look out for our neighbors, especially those who are struggling. We take care of our own. https://t.co/ojSdBovVkR
It’s official – I filed to run for the US Senate this afternoon in Topeka! I'm a proud fifth-generation Kansan, I love Kansas, and I love our country. I spent the last few months traveling across our state and listening to families who are struggling to afford the basic necessities - food, healthcare, and a place to live - because of broken policies coming out of Washington.
Kansans want leaders who are willing to work together to solve these hard problems by putting service above self, country before party, and people over politics. I'm ready to be their Senator and a champion for Kansas. Let’s get to work!
This morning, I had the opportunity to talk to the people of Sabetha, KS and Nemaha County Democratic Chair Don Honig. It was a pleasure to meet you all and to hear what you’re looking for in your next Senator. Thank you Buzz Cafe & Oxen House for hosting us. Let’s get it done!
Every time we fill our gas tanks, buy groceries, or pay our bills, we’re feeling the effects of decisions in Washington. Instead of prioritizing Kansans and protecting our wallets, our leaders are making things worse.
It’s time Kansas had a Senator who treats the cost of living like the emergency it is. It’s time to bring back affordability. We can’t do that with leaders who create global crises instead of building bridges to solve the big problems facing our nation.
Kansans work hard for every single dollar. I know that. I’ve seen it firsthand. A look at the data over the last year tells a story Washington doesn’t want to talk about. We aren’t spending more because we want to. We’re spending more because we have to. And our savings are taking a hit.
Decisions in Washington have caused a nearly 50% drop in savings rates over the last year. That’s unacceptable. We need leaders who will fight to bring costs down, support working families and be a champion for Kansans.
This is stunning.
Personal savings rate April 2025: 5.5%
Personal savings rate April 2026: 2.6%
That's a sharp plunge.
It underscores how squeezed Americans are right now with higher prices and incomes not keeping up.
Maybe you can explain some of this away by Baby Boomers retiring, but not all of it.

For the last 38 years, I’ve been a pastor for a church that is roughly equal parts Democrats, Republicans, and independents. We’ve learned to love and embrace each other precisely because of our differences.
Washington doesn’t need more political fights made for TV. Kansans deserve a government that listens.
I’m an independent-minded Democrat. I’ll lead by listening, speaking out against the wrongs, and fighting for our freedoms.
Please share with your friends and family who are ready for new leadership! -AH
