We’re excited to share that our marine team, and historic timber specialists @Dendrochronicle, have received funding from @histenvscot that will enable us to continue investigating the #SandayShipwreck found on the shores of #Orkney. ⚓️🧐

Excited to have received these LBA tools made by Bronze Age metal smith @neil_burridge. The axe heads are based on an example from the Kalemouth hoard, Roxburgh @NtlMuseumsScot. These high quality replicas will be vital for my experiments. I can't wait to use them!

@neil_burridge @ArchAncHistLeic Thank you! The Type Welby axe I've been primarily using is one made by yourself, passed on by @mgknight24 :) I've been very impressed with it's quality.
Delighted to see the progress with this project. I was involved with the rescue and dendro sub-sampling of the wreck earlier this year. @Dendrochronicle@wessexarch#Orkney
Archaeology is all around you in #Orkney 🤯
A winter storm uncovered this ancient shipwreck on the Sanday shore ⚓
After a race against time, it has been preserved so experts can discover its true origin 🧐 @OrkneyCouncil@wessexarch
Delighted to be working with @treesforlifeuk on the Wild Pine Project. This week we took samples to work out tree ages in this previously unrecorded West Highland site. One tree even had axe marks where ‘fir candle’ tapers had been taken long ago. #dendrochronology#rewilding
Some of us are still recovering from the great day our members had yesterday 🪓 Lots of materially-inclined conversations and collaborations coming out of it! Thanks to all involved and for @HamishDarrah for showing us the ropes… or woods! 🪵
Film newly released made with @TheNWDG about Ravensheugh Copse in East Lothian and the tradition of adventitious Coppicing and creel making in this region: https://t.co/Y9jBYy743k
@aron_of_boyles@tansyleemoir@TheNWDG That's expanded upon in the video. Adventitious coppicing is a type of informal/opportunistic coppicing. A creel in this context is a form of lobster pot (in the picture I tweeted). Hope this helps.
