@Ponty100mph@DrCPerrett The doseage, the timing during a training cycle, the physical and technical capacity of the athlete involved, the weight of the implement/balls, the intensity, etc I could go on and say there are countless variables that we just cannot know about yet. I wouldn't count it out yet.
@Ponty100mph@DrCPerrett I 100% agree with you there - there is a lot of fluff in this space where there are clueless coaches using it inappropriately when just working in technique would be far more advantageous.. but that is a different argument to weighted balls just do not work.
@simon_feros @DrCPerrett@Ponty100mph Nothing wrong with the analysis - I don't have a foot in either camp with weighted balls. I just think the discussion is more nuanced than x does or doesn't work in this context. I have looked into weighted implemented extensively as part of my PhD and there's alot to consider.
@Ponty100mph @simon_feros In my opinion over weight "insert movement here" training just is a very individualized process that alot of people don't understand very well. There are alot of variables in terms of a SSC movement. Just because it benefits one person doesn't mean it will for another.
@simon_feros @Ponty100mph I think that to say this is proof they don't work or have any place is a bit of a overstatement from this research? What about long terms affects etc. Have either of you tried Lila exogen? It's much better as doesn't affect the wrist.
@YouthExercise Get ahead of it and lay out your own expectations. If they dont agree it may not be a good fit! It's tough when athlete x has achieved something and athlete y's parents think that athlete y will get the same benefits from the same amount of training.
@RUGBY_STR_COACH Yeah, I get that but how often do average organizations find low picks that turn out to be diamonds in the rough. I honestly dont know and am curious.. I would suspect it would be lower than highly successful organizations who coach better/provide better environment.
@billmills Protein shake/whatever you buy in person is most likely a need at that time. For me I have 100 articles and other things I want to get done. $3.99 to add to that pile.. this is different if I know what I'm going to get 100%
