Generally:
1. Normal saline, ~1L/hr
2. K+ supplementation if K<5.3
3. IV insulin, hold for K<3.3

To drain a peritonsillar abscess, uncap your needle and cut the distal 1/2 cm off the cap. Then pop it back on as a safety guard. Now you can drain all the pus from the abscess without draining all the blood from the carotid. #FOAM4Cook @CookCountyEM

Things that don’t help snakebites: ice, tourniquets, sucking venom with mouth, sucking venom with pump, elevating extremity, lowering extremity, squeezing venom out, “inactivating” venom with electricity.
