My beautiful Ashley didn’t want to die from #BrainCancer 💔

Ashley dreamed of growing up to become a veterinarian, falling in love, getting married & raising Children of her own. We fought with everything we had, every treatment, every hope to keep her here but the options eventually ran out.

Miracles often whisper rather than shout. They can emerge quietly after endless nights of worry, tearful prayers & relentless determination.

What started as a simple tumble from a swing for 3 year old Trenton quickly became a parent’s deepest fear. Routine scans revealed the unimaginable, a tumor on his adrenal gland. The diagnosis followed neuroblastoma, a form of childhood cancer. Months of uncertainty unfolded. Waiting for results, four grueling rounds of chemotherapy & a tumor entangled around vital blood vessels. Doctors outlined risks in stark, clinical detail.

Through it all, Trenton’s mom, Sherrie, never stopped advocating. She trusted her gut when the path felt wrong, sought second (and third) opinions & fought for answers. Her persistence guided them to the right experts, including a crucial consultation in New York with a leading specialist at Memorial Sloan Kettering. That decision changed everything.

Today, the news is clear & joyful. His scans show no evidence of disease. The tumor is gone. Treatment is complete & no more chemo, no radiation & no stem cell transplant. Trenton is officially cancer free & stepping into healing & a normal life again.

Sherrie has said she felt the power of every prayer lifted for her son. She credits faith, community support & unwavering hope for carrying them through. Looking at this brave little boy now, full of energy & ready to play, it’s impossible not to see the beauty in this outcome.

A true testament to a mother’s love, medical courage & the strength that comes from refusing to give up.

Major #PancreaticCancer breakthrough!

Mariano Barbacid, the renowned Spanish cancer researcher leading the Experimental Oncology Group at Spain’s National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) & his team have developed a triple drug therapy that completely eliminated pancreatic tumors in multiple mouse models, with no relapse observed (even over 200+ days in some cases), minimal side effects & no development of resistance.

The approach targets the KRAS pathway (mutated in ~90% of pancreatic cancers) from multiple angles simultaneously, overcoming the rapid resistance that limits current treatments. This is a huge step forward for one of the deadliest cancers (5 year survival <10%), but it’s still preclinical & not yet a cure in humans. Clinical trials would require more time, funding & regulatory steps, as Barbacid himself emphasized: “We are not yet in a position to carry out clinical trials with this triple therapy.”

Huge respect to Dr. Barbacid (a pioneer who helped identify the first human oncogene decades ago) & his team for this promising advance.

For context: The study was published in PNAS & has been widely covered as one of the most encouraging results yet in pancreatic cancer research.)

Our precious Daughter was only 11 when she was diagnosed with #BrainCancer & faced more pain & challenges than any Child should ever have to endure.

Please don’t think this can’t happen to your own Child. It happens far more often than most people realize.

Ashley was unbelievably strong. She never gave up & in the most miraculous way (I still don’t fully understand how), she stayed so incredibly positive through every moment of her battle.

I came across a letter my 11 year old Daughter wrote on February 4, 2011, shortly after her brain surgery. Reading it reminded me of just how strong she was & how deeply grateful she felt for everyone’s support, prayers & love during her #BrainCancer battle.

My heart aches with an emptiness that words can barely touch. I miss my precious Ashley more than I ever thought possible. Her bright, beaming smile that could light up the darkest days, her sweet, melodic voice that filled our home with laughter, her quick wit & silly sense of humor that turned ordinary moments into pure joy & those tight, loving hugs that wrapped me in safety & warmth. She had this incredible gift of making every hurt feel healable, every worry fade away. Now the world feels quieter, colder & unbearably incomplete. I just miss my beautiful girl with every beat of my broken heart. 💔

Many people say, “Christmas is for Kids.” And they’re right. Most of what we do as parents revolves around our Children, with their health & happiness as our top priority.

Yet #ChildhoodCancer often flies under the radar. Families are so focused on everyday joys & challenges for their own Children that this devastating issue doesn’t always get the widespread attention it deserves.

This holiday season, remember that some Children are fighting for their lives instead of unwrapping presents.

Childhood cancer is the leading cause of disease related death in Children, yet it receives only 4% of federal cancer research funding.

After my 13 year old Daughter died from #BrainCancer one of the most difficult question you seem to get asked often… “How many children do you have?” “Here we go again” is my thinking & my head starts going a million miles an hour bc I know, any second now, I will be reliving my precious Daughters cancer battle. My answer is always “I have four Children and one of them is in Heaven.” It’s an answer that used to be difficult to answer bc most likely, I will get a follow up question. “What happened to your Child?”

One thing is for sure. I will never leave my Ashley out! I’m proud of my Ashley, love talking about her amazing life & all that she is still accomplishing.

If you have a Child that died, always include them, even if it’s difficult to be reminded. They lived & had a purpose.
