@collinsworth55 IMO this is an attempt of American sports media to graft American sports culture onto soccer. Soccer performances aren’t nearly as well measured by stats. For example, a central defender can complete lots of easy lateral passes under almost no pressure if the other team lets him
@billybinion Look at the dude's profile, he's exactly what you'd expect (toxic delusional leftist who's almost certainly made lots of bad choices and refused to conform enough to just stick with boring but reasonably well-paying jobs/careers).
@CoreyWriting I *DO* think there is a genre of social media posting, and I've been seeing this on YouTube for years, where a foreigner will post their positive, often gushing takes and appreciation for "America", but it's all for clicks/attention/engagement.
@IntentOffsides@FOXSports@stuholden@USMNT It was the last minute of the game & Paraguay had given up. They were down 3-1 already and there was no hope.
But I agree it's dumb when soccer boosters in the US cite clips like this (similar clip is Landon Donovan's goal in the 2010 WC against Algeria, which was a tap-in)
@carajak@MattGlassman312@eyeformation Here's another example, all these passes are cited as something to behold, but to an American sports fan's eyes moving the ball around like this isn't impressive, and that makes sense, some things are only appreciated by those who really love a sport https://t.co/bB3iEJF4zT
@carajak@MattGlassman312@eyeformation Over 30 years ago the Simpson made fun of the sport, this is what it can appear like to Americans https://t.co/PyP1r7ixO6
@geonuine@jonkay The burden of playing on home soil? First time I’ve ever heard of this. Whatever burdens come with playing at home, it’s worse playing away.
@MichaelSLinden Didn’t SpaceX become successful by winning contracts? Wasn’t NASA previously paying a Russian company or the Russian government to launch things into space? And not just NASA contracts, but lots of other companies as well?
@bonchieredstate@BullyMaus Wow I just came across her on Doom Scroll (I usually can’t stomach it but I like Joshua Citarella, he seems intellectually honest) and I thought to myself “she’s gotta be some genre of brat” but didn’t take the time to look her up. https://t.co/AJ7yBUkWp6
@ZaidJilani@JohnIsaac55 Unfortunately this isn’t a rich kid thing, on this specific topic it’s an African American thing. I get it, the general resentment that is felt, but I think a majority of African Americans would respond exactly the same way Brianna did. I’ve been shocked over the years.
@CoachGilly6 The highs in soccer are so good that it’s worth it.
Every American dude I’ve ever known who dismisses soccer for all the usual reasons (usually that it’s not tough/violent enough) is also the type of dude who eats bologna & wonder bread sandwiches.
@lymanstoneky I’m reluctant to contribute to knuckle dragging xenophobia but I’ll admit that after watching this Netflix documentary I felt like I detected a perverse arrogance from some of the Somalian interviewees https://t.co/6YdRSKETLn
