إن العدوان الذي استهدف المملكة العربية السعودية يُشكّل تصعيدًا بالغ الخطورة، وانتهاكًا صارخًا لسيادتها، واعتداءً لا يستهدف المملكة وحدها، بل يمسّ أمن الخليج العربي واستقرار المنطقة بأسرها، ويقوّض كل الجهود الرامية إلى ترسيخ الأمن والسلام.

كل التضامن مع المملكة العربية السعودية، قيادةً وحكومةً وشعبًا، ووقوفٌ ثابت إلى جانبها في مواجهة كل ما يهدد أمنها وسيادتها. ونؤكد دعمنا الكامل لحقها المشروع في اتخاذ كل ما تراه مناسبًا للدفاع عن أراضيها ومواطنيها وحماية مصالحها الوطنية، وفقًا للقانون الدولي.

بدعوة كريمة من رئيس بلدية بشامون السيد عزات عيد، وبحضور النائب فيصل الصايغ، وقائمقام عاليه السيدة بدر زيدان، وأعضاء المجلس البلدي في بشامون، والصديق المدير العام السابق للتعليم الثانوي الأستاذ وائل التنير، والمدير العام لمؤسسة مخزومي سامر الصفح، وعدد من الأهالي والفعاليات والمهتمين بالشأن الإنمائي في المنطقة،

واستكمالاً لمبادرات الإنارة المستدامة التي أطلقتها مؤسسة مخزومي في مختلف المناطق اللبنانية، عقدنا اليوم لقاءً مثمرًا في بلدية بشامون، حيث جرى استئناف مشروع تركيب 200 وحدة إنارة تعمل على الطاقة الشمسية في البلدة، وذلك بالتعاون والتنسيق مع البلدية ولجنة أهالي المنطقة.

وقد شاركتُ في مأدبة غداء أُقيمت في دارة السيد عيد، حيث كانت فرصة للتشديد على دور الشراكة بين المؤسسات الإنمائية والبلديات في تنفيذ المشاريع التي تستجيب لحاجات المواطنين، وثمّن الحاضرون مشروع الإنارة الذي تنفذه مؤسسة مخزومي في شوارع بشامون ضمن جهودها لدعم المبادرات المستدامة وتحسين الخدمات العامة. وقد ألقى الأستاذ وائل التنير كلمة باسم اللجنة المكلفة مواكبة المشروع، عبّر فيها عن التقدير للجهود المبذولة والتعاون القائم لإنجاح هذه المبادرة، وأكدنا استمرارنا في العمل معاً لما فيه خير البلدة ومصلحة أبنائها.

كما تم خلال اللقاء الاتفاق على استمرار التعاون وإطلاق عدة مبادرات تنموية مهنية واجتماعية بهدف خدمة المنطقة وأهلها.

Fouad Makhzoumi had secured over 31 of parliament’s 128 votes. Nawaf Salam held about a dozen. Three names on the ballot was the trap: split the opposition and the seat reverts to Najib Mikati, Lebanon walks back to the world before November 27, 2024, a cabinet Hezbollah could own. Salam wouldn’t step aside. So the man who was ahead did.

There’s a three thousand year old test for exactly this. Two claimants, one child, a sword offered as fairness. The false one says cut. The real mother gives the child away whole, because she was never in it to hold him. She was in it to keep him alive.

Makhzoumi even named the child, on camera: a country with a place for our children and grandchildren. He was ahead, and he let go. That is how Solomon found the real mother.

🚩The Sunni MPs stood on one side. Fouad Makhzoumi stood on another level entirely.

In May, Lebanon’s Sunni MPs found their voice. A gathering of them, from every region, declared the diplomatic track the only road out of the war, the most unified stand the community had taken in years. It cost them nothing. The track was an abstraction, the terms unwritten, the bill not yet due.

On Friday, the bill arrived. The framework signed in Washington is that abstraction made concrete, and concrete has a price: disarmament. A real document a citizen can read, weigh, and hold its signers to.

And the bench went silent!

By Saturday, with the agreement consuming every front page in the country, the Sunni MPs:

Ibrahim Mneimneh, Nabil Badr, Imad al-Hout, Adnan Traboulsi, Walid al-Baarini, Mohammed Sleiman, Mohammed Yahya, Faisal Karami, Taha Naji, Abdelkarim Kabbara, Ihab Mattar, Ahmad al-Khair, Abdelaziz al-Samad, Jihad al-Samad, Bilal Abdallah, Halima Kaakour, Abdelrahman al-Bizri, Osama Saad, Kassem Hachem, Bilal Hechaime, Hassan Mrad, Yassin Yassin, Melhem al-Houjairi, and Yanal Solh,

had not yet reacted, or attacked the agreement. The men who convened press conferences to bless the journey could not produce a sentence for the destination. When the position was free, they seized it. When it carried weight, they set it down.

The distinction is not that all of those MPs are silent. Some are not silent at all, they are aligned. Several sit inside or alongside the March 8, Hezbollah orbit. The Islamic Group has openly rejected the agreement, and the Nasserist current is ideologically opposed to any Washington-brokered framework. These are not undecided actors. They were never going to endorse a deal that threatens the political and military architecture they belong to.

So subtract them. Remove the openly aligned and the ideologically opposed, and the silence that remains does not shrink, it sharpens. What is left is not principled opposition. It is the men who stood at the May podium calling this track the only road out of the war, and who cannot repeat the sentence now that it carries a signature and a cost.

That is the distinction between Fouad Makhzoumi and the rest, and it has a date on it. Makhzoumi made the case when making it was dangerous, when standing near this track earned you the “Zionist” label from Hezbollah’s propaganda machine. He said the unfashionable thing in plain Lebanese: this country has negotiated with Israel since 1949, and a state that wants its land back negotiates from a position, not from a militia’s permission.

The Sunni street has had no leadership since Saad Hariri folded the tent in 2022. Friday revealed who stepped into that vacuum and who is still hiding from it. A community owed a strategy got, from most of its representatives, the sound of a phone switched to silent.

Leadership is not what you say when the cameras are on and the cost is zero. It is what you hold when the document is real and the threat is at the door. On Friday, one Beirut MP was still standing exactly where he stood in the spring. The rest discovered they had somewhere else to be.

Today’s agreement announced in Washington marks a historic turning point and presents Lebanon with a rare opportunity to fully restore its sovereignty, reclaim its national decision-making, and open a new chapter of security, stability, and peace.
We unequivocally support this process, led by the Lebanese state under the leadership of President Joseph Aoun and the Government, as the only serious national path capable of bringing decades of conflict to an end and addressing the outstanding issues between Lebanon and Israel.
For this process to succeed, all arms must be placed exclusively under the authority of the Lebanese state. Hezbollah’s weapons outside the framework of state legitimacy must come to an end, and the Lebanese Armed Forces must assume full security responsibility throughout the South as a first step toward extending the state’s authority across all Lebanese territory.
At the same time, Israel’s full withdrawal from all occupied Lebanese territory remains an indispensable pillar of any just and lasting agreement that delivers security and peace for both sides.
Today is not merely the beginning of a new round of negotiations. It is the beginning of Lebanon’s path to reclaiming its state: one state, one army, one legitimate authority over arms, full sovereignty, and lasting peace.
