Maybe I'm wrong and some giant proves it can turn fast.
Haven't seen it yet.
The mid-tier firm that builds boring infrastructure now is the one I'd bet on.
The smart ones are building the foundation before they chase big business.
Governance first, scale second.
The big guys are doing it in reverse, retrofitting controls onto something already massive.
Retrofitting is where the pain lives.
If your governance program assumes you're fixing something broken, check that assumption.
You might be building something that never existed.
Those are different budgets, different timelines, different conversations.
Everyone diagnosing data governance in capital markets is using the wrong word.
And the wrong word is why the fixes keep failing.
Took me a while to see it.
What actually works starts from zero.
Build the controls first.
Then the policy framework.
Then integration, as a design choice, not a rescue mission.
Boring order. It matters.
