“There’s one motel…not too far from here actually. You plannin’ on drinkin’ more? ‘cause I can drive you there if ya want?”
The words are out of his mouth before he knew it and he inwardly cringes.
“Shit, I’ll uh…walk ya? I’m two beers in, should not drive.”
~
And it was just that — a bombardment of questions and musing aloud, or so it felt to someone who’d been used to nothing more than the sound of his own voice for weeks now, and even that came sparingly. Overwhelming, maybe, but not unpleasant:
~ he catches another glimpse from the barkeep which makes him groan.
“You know what? I’ll just stop talkin’, I’m just yappin’ your ear off.” He mutters, reaching up to rub at the back of his neck, he couldn’t even blame the alcohol. Something about ‘Scott’ made him ~
~ as he catches a look from the bar keep, one that says ‘you’re doing too much’.
That made him think he was being too forward and asking too many questions.
“Sorry if I’m askin’ too many questions. Don’t get a lot of excitement ‘round here.”
He could never admit the disappointment that surged through him at Scott’s words.
‘Passing through.’ Of course he was, why would he stick around in this backwater town people barely knew about.
A smile was quick to appear as the man teased him right back, wetting his lips ~
“Passing through. Yeah.”
More than a grain of truth. This was just one on a long list of places he’d breezed through, a spot to while away the time until that crawling under his skin got a little too hard to ignore and he moved onto the next one.
~
“A guy who’s soaked through and drippin’ on the floor like a lost puppy might I add.” He chuckled softly and shrugged his shoulders loosely.
“Please tell me you have somewhere to stay tonight. Couldn’t help but notice you’re travelin’ light.” He lowers his voice ~
~ he lifts his beer and lightly clinks it against Scott’s before lifting it to his lips to take a lengthy sip.
“Sorry for all the questions, you’re the most interestin’ thing I’ve seen in years” he quietly admits, shifting in his seat.
Evan took advantage of Scott’s hesitation in shaking his hand to study the man’s features, the small crease in his furrowed brow, his baby blues.
When Scott finally takes his hand in theirs, he can feel the strength behind it even when his own dwarfs it.
“Pleasure to meet ~
There was a moment, as that hand was offered to him, where Leon found himself frozen in indecision. This had gone beyond two strangers passing in the night, drifting into something close to companionship — or at least an inroad to it.
~ ya Scott.” He rose a brow, catching the ‘L’ on the tip of the blondes tongue but he dismisses it. Not his business.
Begrudgingly he withdraws his hand and settles it around his glass.
“Never seen you around before, you must be new. Jus’ passin’ through?” ~
