Watching WALPURGIS NIGHT (1935) on @criterionchannl. It's very Swedish, and therefore a bit Bergamnesque (as in, Ingmar), but Ingrid Bergman is so incredible in it that it makes me wish they'd worked together earlier.
Thank you everyone at Criterion and @such_Mayer, Bette Gordon, @JoWeldon, @Antonia Crane, Daphne, Selena, @vfunari69, Louise Smith, Mandy Goodwin, Andi Gladstone, Scott MacDonald and the great Judy Irola (in memoriam) for their BRILLIANT contributions.
18th century aristocrats wore ships and other outlandish ornaments on their heads. Hair powder was usually white, but it could also be orange, pink, red, blue, or violet. Lard was used to bind hair pieces together, and sometimes rats lived in them.
Born In Flames was restored to 35mm by the incredible Anthology Film Archives. And there are still projectors in the Roxie SF projection booth... unchanged from the '40's... like going back in time. Spectacular!
"An excellently filmed version of a musical legend.” @variety
