This is interesting. Tells us that in this new CBA world, teams do not want two 35% cap hits under any circumstance, even if it's Tatum and Giannis who are arguably two top 5 players
I think part of all the anger/frustration/etc is this is a new world where the Celtics are basically the first team going through this roster building cycle in the new CBA. There's no blueprint, so as fans we don't really know what to expect
โFor fu*king Paul George. 38 years old. Iโm gonna throw up.โ

@Giannis_An34 Were the Celtics willing to pay you the contract extension you wanted?
Please answer me. I need to know if I can ever root for the Celtics again.
I simply could never root for another basketball team. I thought yesterday I could become a 76ers fan or just pick another NBA team. But I simply canโt. I love Celtics too much. I have spent too much of my money on Celtics tickets. I have watched too many games to ever try and support another NBA franchise. I think my best option is to become a big College Basketball fan now but I am open to other suggestions.
Jaylen Brown was eligible for and wanted a new contract extension. The Celtics did not want to pay it. So they traded him for the best deal possible instead. They will be able to move on from Paul George in 2 years and maybe even sooner if they can find the right trade partner.
@joonlee@frankmikesmith Respectfully, how is private equity/ownership responsible for a trade where the Celtics acquired a worse, less movable contract? The team isnโt actually saving any money from the trade.
The Jaylen Brown trade has taught me that after my family and friends I love my sports teams more than anything. I would do anything to have Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum on the Celtics for the rest of their careers. I am going to bed now. Go USA.
Do I root for the 76ers now? No I hate the 76ers. But I hate the Celtics even more. How does a lifelong Celtics fan move on from this. I have been watching the Celtics since I was 8 years old. I could never root for another team. But itโs clear the new Celtics private equity owners do not care about winning. The Celtics won a championship with Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. I paid thousands of dollars to go to Game 5, snuck down to the court at the end, and watched Jaylen Brown raise the MVP trophy he deserved. Tatum was awesome too. The Mavericks were triple teaming him and he selflessly became the greatest passer creating the best team basketball I have ever witnessed. Then instead of celebrating Tatumโs performance the entire media destroyed him. The next year Jayson Tatum tore his Achilles. I had paid thousands of more dollars to go to this game and saw this in person. It was as equally horrible to witness Tatumโs injury as it was incredible to see the Celtics raise banner 18. The Celtics said they were salary dumping Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis instead of getting a real trade return because they wanted to get under the luxury tax and take advantage by going all in the next year after Jayson Tatum returned. With Tatum missing Jaylen Brown had the greatest season of his career. It was awesome. I went to tons of games. Instead because of a playoff loss to the 76ers with an injured Jayson Tatum the Celtics have decided to trade Jaylen Brown to the 76ers for Paul George and 2 first round picks. This is mind boggling. Why not see what Jaylen Brown and a fully healthy Jayson Tatum can do when you go all in around them like you promised? The Celtics new owners are private equity. They are not trying to win a championship. They are trying to get a return on their investment. That is what private equity does. They have broken their promise of going all in to the fans by instead salary dumping Jaylen Brown. They did not want to give him the new contract he was eligible for. They will find an eventual trade partner for Paul George before his contract expires in 2 years. They will keep Jayson Tatum until he eventually demands a trade when he realizes ownership will never spend any serious money recruited to win a championship. I could never root for another NBA team. But at the same time I can never watch another Celtics game or pay to go one until ownership proves me wrong. The current best option seems to not watch the NBA regular season and just watch some of the better playoff series when they come around. I think rooting for a College Basketball team could also work. I donโt understand why the media tried to drive Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum apart instead of building them up as the next great duo like they do with everyone else. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown as a duo for the rest of their careers with real owners who wanted to spend money could have easily won 3 more championships. They would have been all time great Celtics. I feel like I got beat up and robbed. I am so sad and hurt and angry.
I love you @FCHWPO I love you @jaytatum0
As a Celtics fan, I cannot figure out this trade (obviously)
But shout out Jaylen Brown. It was a blast watching him for a decade become one of the best players in the league and a Finals MVP.
He brought it on both ends every damn night.
Heโs an all time Celtic whose number will hang in the rafters ๐ซก
BLOCKBUSTER: The Boston Celtics have agreed to trade Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers for Paul George, two first-round picks and two second-round picks, sources tell ESPN.
They told us last year they were cutting salary so they could go all in when Tatum was healthy in a year. Now these private equity goobers are trying to trade Jaylen Brown.
