Looks like I’ve accidentally created a small lake without permission.

A few months ago I was clearing a rubbish strewn hollow beside the Roding & thought that as we don’t have any still standing water in the area, it would be a good place to install a pond.

Using a digger to excavate it & volunteers to install the liner & it’s bigger than I expected, more a small lake than a pond! Although a bigger job than I expected, I’m determined to get it completed & filled for local wildlife. Am planning to put gravel on the bottom & mud from the river on the sides & let plant life naturally colonise rather than buying, but any hints or tips are welcome.

If anyone is in London this Sunday & fancies joining a volunteer day in Barking to complete the pond, all help is very much welcome (drop me a message for the details).
