🥎 STOP CHASING THE DIVISION. START CHASING THE RIGHT FIT.

One of the biggest mistakes I see in recruiting is athletes feeling pressured by comments like:

“Why aren’t you going D1?”
“You could play at a higher level.”

Here’s the truth:

College softball isn’t about the logo on your jersey. It’s about finding the place where you’ll succeed for the next four years.

Every level—NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, and JUCO—has outstanding coaches, talented players, competitive softball, and incredible academic opportunities.

What matters most is finding a program where:
🥎 You’re valued as a person, not just another name on the roster.
🎓 Your academic goals are supported.
📈 You have the opportunity to grow and contribute.
🤝 The coaching staff communicates honestly.
🏡 The team culture feels like home.

I’ve seen athletes choose a school because of the division, only to end up unhappy, buried on the depth chart, or transferring a year later.

The best commitment isn’t the highest division. It’s the best fit.

Go where you’ll be challenged.
Go where you’ll be supported.
Go where you’ll grow as both a player and a person.

Every opportunity to play college softball is an incredible accomplishment.

Choose fit over prestige. Your future self will thank you.

Athletes and parents… please please please STOP posting phone numbers publicly on recruiting graphics and social media profiles.

College coaches already know how to contact you through email, DMs, recruiting platforms, travel coaches, and questionnaires. Publicly posting a minor’s phone number opens the door for:
• scammers pretending to be coaches or recruiters
• harassment and inappropriate messages
• spam calls/texts
• fake opportunities and phishing attempts
• your information being shared far beyond recruiting circles

Protect your athlete. Use email as the primary contact method and share phone numbers privately when needed. Recruiting should increase exposure on the FIELD… not exposure to unsafe people online.

When you step on campus, ask questions that help you find your fit — not just your offer.

The right school is more than a logo or facility… it’s about how you’ll grow as a player, student, and person.

If you’re not sure what to ask during a visit — I’ve got you covered 👇

Here are a few must-ask questions:
•What qualities do you look for in players on your roster?
•How would you describe your coaching style and team culture?
•What academic support is available for athletes (tutoring, study hall, advisors)?
•How flexible are professors and coaches with missed classes due to travel?
•Are athletic scholarships guaranteed yearly, or renewed based on performance?
•Are there opportunities for academic or leadership scholarships to combine with athletic aid?
•What’s the team dynamic like off the field?
