@JB_Norfolk Fundamentally, I also don't like not even giving fellow humans a chance when we know nothing about them. War and disaster can happen anywhere, any of us may need to rely on the kindness of strangers one day.
@JB_Norfolk I'm also influenced by the history I've learnt. In pretty much any time period you will find people who are different being blamed for society's problems, and they are never the actual cause.
@JB_Norfolk I'm sure there are people coming in who don't have a great claim to be here, but I think most will genuinely be fleeing very bad situations. We should speed up processing claims so we don't need to use up hotels while people wait months or years for their cases to be decided on.
@JB_Norfolk I agree we've got problems - not enough homes, doctors appointments, dentists etc. But I don't think that people coming here seeking safety or a better life are the cause of that. It's much more complex.
@JB_Norfolk I also don't agree with tarring a whole group of people with the same brush. I guess I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and to judge them on their own merits rather than the demographic group they may be a part of.
@JB_Norfolk I went because I don't like that the families that are already here are being suddenly moved on from somewhere they've had time to settle in.
@JB_Norfolk I'm not saying I'm in favour of hotels being used to house people. It's an emergency measure brought about by multiple broken things, and doesn't do anyone any good.
@JB_Norfolk 😅 there were several others who I know personally who also live here. I imagine the proportions of those who live here and those who had come to support their point of view might be quite equal on both sides?
@DeBarsham@SandyofSuffolk The hotel only has 28 bedrooms, so presumably a maximum of 28 people could be hosted - is that enough to qualify as an invasion?
@RoseAylingEllis Hi Rose, I've just enjoyed your Who Do You Think You Are episode and thought you might like this history of a deaf photographer and world traveller whose photos we look after at the archive I work for. He was a very adventurous man: https://t.co/AfqRaI7lkr
@BritishArmyWDs I work for an archive which looks after letters sent by men of the 1st Suffolks during the retreat to Dunkirk, some of whom didn't make it home. I wonder if any of them a mentioned in the diary? There are, I think, 41 in total. Some info here https://t.co/Fz0ewsUIQq
@AdrianRamsay This will mean thousands of electronic devices across our local area which are less than a year old being rendered obsolete. I am trying to find out how they plan to deal with this enormous amount of waste they are creating
@AdrianRamsay Hi Adrian, has anyone been in touch with you about Upp broadband switching off their service in the Diss area? They marketed extremely heavily and now have sold out to Virgin Media.
@KasiaTee I don't know if this counts as a museum gift shop, but some Titanic experience exhibition I went to at the O2 sold replica 'Heart of the Ocean' necklaces and bits of coal which had been brought up from the wreck
