1/ Our latest @NJGVRC publication just came out in SLTB!
Our questions:
Do folks who store their firearms loaded & unlocked perceive secure firearm storage as ineffective at preventing firearm injury and death?
Is this particularly true for suicide prevention?
New STRONG STAR studies were the focus of presentations on Shaping the Future of Combat-Related PTSD at today’s San Antonio Combat PTSD Conference. Highlights included new initiatives in treating PTSD, TBI, chronic pain, sleep disorders, and suicide risk. #combatptsd2023

1/ Another new @NJGVRC paper out today, this one published in @JAMANetworkOpen - In this study, we recruited a nationally representative sample of firearm owners (n = 2,152) and took a nuanced look at firearm storage practices.
4/ In both samples, we found that individuals who were told about the locking devices included in their firearm purchases a higher percentage of the time were more likely to be using such devices now.
Reducing access to firearms has helped reduce suicide deaths and improved survival rates of suicide attempts, according to a Pentagon report, which includes 117 recommendations that stretch beyond safe firearm storage.

Today we release a web interactive that shows where and for whom mortality is highest, and how state gun laws may affect those differences. 🧵 https://t.co/XaAdR0vugR
