Trans Day of Remembrance is a day to pay respects to trans people who’ve lost their lives to violence and suicide. Sadly, it can also increase hate aimed at trans people, particularly on social media.

Research tells us that LGBTQ+ people are at a higher risk of suicidal thoughts, suicide attempts and self-harm compared to people who aren’t LGBTQ+.

But, being LGBTQ+ isn’t a risk in itself, it’s often because of experiences LGBTQ+ people may have 🧵

The language we use about mental health matters. It’s important not to stigmatise people when they’re reaching out for help. It adds barriers for other people who might be hesitant to open up.
