At the launch of the IGAD Regional Youth Coalition on Climate and Climate-Resilient Agri-food Systems in Nairobi (4–5 May 2026), Somali Women in Environment & Climate Change stand proud representing the voices of Somali youth and women, and driving a climate-resilient future.
ℹ️ The youth, who constitute the largest demographic group in the @IGADsecretariat region, are playing a crucial role in climate action. Their engagement spans awareness creation, policy advocacy, climate-resilient innovations, climate-smart agriculture, contributions to National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), and overall, the mobilisation of communities towards tangible climate solutions.
Recognising this ICPAC and @AGRA_Africa in collaboration with the Office of the @IGADYouthEnvoy , is convening a two-day regional event to launch the IGAD Regional Youth Coalition on Climate and Climate-Resilient Agri-food Systems in Nairobi, Kenya.
Ahead of tomorrow's launch, today's technical session focused on the Coalition's framework, governance structure, operational modalities, and an initial work plan, key components for its effective establishment and lasting impact. The initiative brings together young people from #Djibouti, #Ethiopia, #Kenya, #Somalia, #SouthSudan, #Sudan, and #Uganda
IGAD Rallies Regional Action for Climate Resilience and Recovery.
#IGAD through its Agriculture and Environment Division convened a regional consultation with Member States and experts on the Recover-Horn Initiative to strengthen climate resilience and sustainable recovery across the Horn of Africa.
Opening remarks were delivered by Mr. Daher Elmi Houssein, Director of Agriculture and Environment Division, and Mr. Mouktar Mahamoud Waberi,Director of Agriculture and Forestry, Ministry of Agriculture Republic of Djibouti, stressing the need for coordinated regional action on climate and food security challenges.
Participants reviewed priorities and next steps for implementation.
