The main reason Alex Jones was held liable was not that he questioned an official narrative. It was that he repeatedly and callously made false accusations about specific people. He claimed the Sandy Hook shooting was staged, that the grieving parents were “crisis actors,” and that they were knowingly participating in a fraud. His false claims, made for clicks and fame, were damaging (severe understatement) and led to harassment and threats against grieving, innocent people. So his "protected opinion" defense failed.

The First Amendment protects the right to question events and criticize official accounts, but it does not provide blanket immunity for defamation.

Obviously I’m not talking about Tyler Robinson. Because Tyler Robinson’s DNA on the towel and screw driver obviously means absolutely nothing. He couldn’t possibly be guilty despite video showing him on campus four times on 9/10, showing him limping (hiding a rifle in his pants), lying prone on the rooftop the minute Charlie was shot, immediately jumping off the roof and running away, texting his trans boyfriend Lance Twiggs that he killed Charlie Kirk, admitting in his Discord chat that he killed Charlie Kirk, admitting to his parents that he killed Charlie Kirk, turning himself into police because he killed Charlie Kirk, never denying publicly after being charged that he killed Charlie Kirk, and stating multiple times prior to killing Charlie Kirk that he hated Charlie Kirk.
