For anyone taking care of their elderly mom:
Remember, she never counted the times she woke up to soothe your cries, banish the monsters under your bed, and comforted you back to sleep.
Don’t count the times she needs you now.
Remember to hold her hand as she can only take small steps now, just like she held yours when you needed to be steadied.
Don’t get frustrated when she repeats herself, she spent all her life listening to your trials and tribulations and always knew how to comfort and celebrate you.
When her memory begins to fade, remember, she knew you first and has loved you the longest.
Remember, as her world gets smaller, don’t let her feel alone. For her entire life, you have always filled her world.
Don’t abandon her now.
It’s hard watching the one who gave you life, or the one who chose you, to slowly lose theirs.
It’s even harder for them to know their earthly journey is coming to an end.
Gebetsbitte: Für Prof. Dr. Georg May.

Your brain thinks on about 20 watts. An artificial system doing the same work would need roughly 25 million times more energy, enough, on paper, to supply a quarter of a million homes.
Matching the complexity of a human cortex has been a long standing goal in computing, but the power cost is enormous. Researchers have estimated that a human scale model of about 20 billion neurons, run on an exascale machine, would draw around 0.5 gigawatts, or 500 million watts. That is the same order of demand as running hundreds of thousands of average households at once. It is a hard limit on any plan to copy the brain by throwing more conventional silicon at the problem.
Biology makes the contrast sharper. The living brain does its work on the power of a dim bulb. An exascale simulator would need the budget of a small city. That gap is why labs have turned to neuromorphic chips, hardware that copies the sparse, event driven style of real neurons instead of burning watts on dense matrix math. Until those architectures are mature, a full, faithful simulation of human cognition stays behind a power bill that no ordinary data center can pay.

Merz ist eben ein Visionär. Was grundsätzlich nichts Schlechtes ist.

"Be not solicitous for your life."
Say often with Job: The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away: as it pleased the Lord, so it is done: blessed be the name of the Lord. Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither.

"Pain without Christ is suffering; pain with Christ is sacrifice."
— Fulton J. Sheen
No one gets through life without pain.
Heartbreak. Sickness. Betrayal. Loss. Disappointment. Prayers that seem to go unanswered.
We cannot always choose the crosses that come into our lives, but we can choose what we do with them.
Fulton Sheen reminds us that suffering united to Christ can become something more than pain. Jesus did not stay far away from suffering. He entered into it. He carried the Cross. And through that Cross, He brought redemption.
That means your suffering does not have to be wasted either.
When you bring your pain to Jesus and offer it to Him, even the hardest parts of your life can become an offering of love, prayer, and sacrifice.
St. Paul wrote, “Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship” (Romans 12:1).
The saints understood this. They did not go looking for suffering. But when suffering came, they placed it in the hands of Christ and asked Him to use it for His glory and for the good of souls.
Maybe you do not understand your cross right now. Maybe you are still asking God why.
But suffering placed in the hands of Jesus is never meaningless.
💬 Have you ever looked back on something painful and realized God brought something good from it?
Share this with someone who needs to remember that their tears are seen, their suffering matters, and they do not carry their cross alone.
