It’s a tough situation for Ferrari and Leclerc.
What’s best for Leclerc, is for him to close the gap to Lewis - but that’s tough, because it would by necessity mean Ferrari will NOT win a WDC this year. The team surely know this, as an 81pt gap is not able to be overcome.
What’s best for Ferrari, is for there to be perhaps another couple bad-luck weeks for Leclerc while he performs well, and good weeks for Lewis. Then as a matter of practicality, the shift towards priority and focus on Lewis’ WDC campaign be in full effect by the summer break to try and steal a WDC. They can then use Leclerc as a mule car for correlation and development testing, and as a race aid à la Barichello.
It’s a very interesting time. If Lewis wins the WDC, Leclerc’s goal of being the one to bring the team back to a championship ends, and thus his tenure at Ferrari is effectively done. It would make sense that they could mutually part ways should another seat open up. Ferrari are very, very keen on Bearman and Câmara, so Leclerc doesn’t necessarily have to be a part of the future plan.
f1twt is not the place for sincere argument bc people will purposely misconstrue the nuance of something or bend it to fit their narrative while simultaneously denying the nuance you're highlighting to show them why that's inflammatory at best & incorrect at worst. echo chamber.
1/4 Oltre all'aerodinamica, emerge il lavoro "invisibile" sui corner ruota e sui cerchi.
What is really standing out to me about yesterday's win is Lewis's actual raw performance compared to Antonelli, who has been the benchmark.
Outqualified him by a few tenths, kept him behind comfortably, then pulled a 20s+ gap.
This is genuine elite pace from Lewis & Ferrari
The VSC only made the win for Lewis easier. When it came out, he had a 15.9s lead over GR, & was told he had another 7 laps left on that stint. Tyres were still good to push. Pit stop was about 22s long. Pitted under normal race conditions, he’d come back out about 7s behind 1/
