From 1st January BoPH will no longer be using X as one of our social media platforms.
You can still find us on Facebook, Instagram and Bluesky, where you can report any local bird sightings and news.
We'll also leave our X account open so that you can find any historic posts.
@CleyBirds Great to hear that he’s made his way up there and thanks for sharing. Would you be happy for us to share this photo on our sightings page and socials with credit to you Steve?
@Birduder344@dP85186699@SmalePerry@Natures_Voice When you take into account the wader is a Dunlin, it doesn’t look that big. Field observations were that it looked like a very small falcon. Plumage and features all look good for adult female Merlin. Agree a May sighting is odd but not unusual.
Male Hen Harrier again from Turlin Moor Viewpoint at Lytchett Bay, flew through at 10.34am. Also a single White-tailed Eagle over Otter Island at 10.42am. Very high tide in the bay currently. @harbourbirds@LytchettP@DorsetBirdClub@ianballam@NarwhalSh
One last hurrah for the 2024 non-motorised year list, bringing it to 209 - a delightful Snow Bunting which had obviously never seen a dog before arriving at Hamworthy Beach. Now it's seen about a million... @harbourbirds@DorsetBirdClub
We photographed it quickly then let it be. It's back this AM in it's original area feeding on the beach, behind the beach huts. Also 7 Common Snipe, 1 Jack Snipe and 3 Dunlin out on Baiter Park last night. @DorsetBirdClub@BirdGuides
Last night we were out surveying some of the urban shorelines around Poole and wondered out of curiosity if we could find the Hamworthy Snow Bunt roosting anywhere. We found it roosting in a small hollow of sand at far east end of Hamworthy Beach! @DorsetBirdClub@BirdGuides

A couple of drake Mandarin Duck were brightening up a dull Poole Park lake yesterday - New Year's Day bird racers take note ;-) @harbourbirds@DorsetBirdClub
Last stop on the way home from my bike ride to Sandbanks yesterday was Holes Bay where Pintail are reliable at this time of year. The two alert drakes reminded me of champagne flutes - so elegant! @DorsetBirdClub@harbourbirds
