That person with a good “corporate job” of N500k per month is struggling because there’s probably no avenue to steal money (corruption) in their line of work. Corruption is what sustains white collar workers and makes them look down on their blue collar counterparts.

I have explained this countless times.

Nobody in the corporate space in Nigeria, including federal employees, who earns N500,000 and below can afford a 1-bedroom-apartment in Lugbe, Abuja. Bear in mind that people who earn up to N500,000/m in the corporate space are not up 0.5%, yet they somehow manage to afford Abuja & Lagos rents, and run households of 3 or more, including those who officially earn way less.

Corruption is powering all of that. It’s called “racket” - and it exists in every corporate environment in Nigeria.

When you go to the Ministry of Education to verify your credentials, and you are asked to pay bribe if you desire a speedy service, understand that the system that invented that slow service in the first place made it so in order to leave room for staff, whose official salary is peanuts, to be able to make money through unofficial means by offering a speedy service that should have been a norm as special service.

Without corruption, a.k.a racket, in the corporate world, a roadside mechanic earns more in a month than a mid to senior level worker with a fancy title in an aesthetically pleasing office space.

And it’s not very hard to understand. Blue collar workers actually offer more value to the Nigerian economy in its current stage of development than their white collar counterparts, who are in most cases overcompensated for doing very little.

This is also why I push back when pretend middle-class Nigerians try to assume moral authority over those they consider lower class – “oh poor Nigerians are wicked, they are so greedy, and are all thieves” – when in fact, they themselves are the real thieves. Some of them say this while jumping from office to office seeking inflated contracts. Some of them who work in marketing will give client budget, collect money, pocket more than half and use only a fraction of it to actually run client’s campaign. But they don’t see all these as stealing or corruption, because they are done wearing suit and tie.

There’s so many things Nigerians still need to unlearn, learn, and relearn.

The EFCC was originally set up, commissioned, and rushed into law in 2003 on the direct request and intense diplomatic pressure of the United States government.

The G7 nations and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) had already officially blacklisted Nigeria as a non-cooperative state in 2001, and Western powers were aggressively preparing to tighten the financial screws, block international bank transfers, freeze Nigerian accounts, and isolate our banking sector should an anti-money laundering agency not be established immediately to protect Western financial interests.

The very first sets of EFCC officers, forensic auditors, and field agents were directly trained by American intelligence agencies, including the CIA, the FBI, the US Secret Service, and the US Department of Justice. The British government similarly dispatched intelligence operatives to train these agents, and Western intelligence was actively, deeply involved in writing the core operational doctrines, investigative protocols, and legal frameworks of the EFCC.
Even to this very day, American and European intelligence agencies continue to provide specialized training, advanced surveillance technology, forensic software, and joint capacity-building programs to the EFCC on a continuous basis.

The EFCC continues to maintain direct, operational, and daily linkages with the FBI and Western intelligence agencies to this very day. This is precisely why the agency mysteriously possesses almost infinite financial resources, high-tech tracking equipment, and lightning-fast speed whenever it comes to hunting down local "Yahoo boys" targeting Western citizens, or selectively harassing opposition political candidates in Nigeria.
Yet, the exact same agency suddenly becomes completely paralyzed, infinitely slow, legally toothless, and pathetically powerless whenever it comes to investigating corporate tax evasion, oil bunkering, illegal mining, and the systemic looting of local public funds that starves Nigerian schools and hospitals.

Nobody is making the simplistic and lazy argument that 100% of our current economic predicaments, security collapses, and political decay in Nigeria should be attributed exclusively to the CIA or foreign corporations. But aggressively trying to over-localize our structural problems, blaming only local corruption, and completely dismissing documented foreign interference and external intelligence control is profoundly, criminally misleading.

The Gulf States are bajillionaires because of their oil and gas. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE are worth trillions and are living large.

Russia is rich as hell because of of its oil, gas, wheat, gold, coal, platinum and other natural resources.

Hell even China, the poster boys for hardwork and human capital, owe a huge part of their development to coal deposits and of course the infamous rare earths.

Thing is, you need Both human capital AND natural resources to grow a nation the size of Nigeria.

Alhajis Aliko Dangote & Abdulsamad Rabiu have done extremely well for themselves and employ a shit ton of Nigerians.

But yet our poverty rates are at an all time high precisely because the colonizers and the warrant chiefs take the biggest cut of our natural resources revenue.

Nigeria will lift its people out of poverty and become the heavyweight we are destined to be when we use tear up the parasitic deals our warrant chiefs have cut with the colonizers, use it as toilet paper and then light it on fire.

It's not that I'm against Chevron, Lafarge or Orano taking our oil, limestone and uranium.

Just pay full price and abide by our laws.

Hand over some of those sweet, sweet industrial tech while you're at it and you've got yourself a handsome deal.

Heck if I were president I'd cut you 60% of the pie if you build your plants here, disproportionately hire Nigerians, give us some of your industrial blueprints, and stop funding terrorists.

You'd get handsome tax breaks if you forked over some of your blueprints and paid a fair price.

But of course Oyibo will always want to buy your limestone for #20 per kg and sell you cement for #10k per bag
