Harim Peiris served as Presidential Spokesman from 2001-2005. He concurrently served as Director General for Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconciliation from 2004
Supreme Court,…determined that the SJB decision to expel Ministers Harin Fernando and Manusha Nanayakkara from the party is legally valid.
…expulsion of Harin F and Manusha N will lead to the loss of their parliamentary seats and Ministerial portfolios. https://t.co/A1OUaCZXp1
The common Tamil candidate idea is a very bad one, because it will make the Tamil cause weak, Sumanthiran said. “This is not an election one can use to send a message on Tamil issues. This is not a referendum on the right of self-determination…,” he said https://t.co/nOvJeNqksa
“#LKA cannot stray from IMF framework!”
Except on reducing corruption. Certainly not on reducing taxes — how else to pay for corruption? 🙂
The VFS deal stinks to the heavens, everyone knows that in #SriLanka.
But the AGs dept — ever keen remind us why we needs a “system change” — is said to have spoken in support of the sordid deal in Supreme Court.
“The AG’s Department…maintained… that the procurement process had been duly followed… and that the VFS deal” [wait for it…] “suited the need of the time”! 😂
Compare that against what came out in court, as reported in this article by @nimilamalee

An order of the Supreme Court cannot be overturned by Cabinet decision. Any attempt to defy the court order by any party will be contempt of court and will have no legal force. This will not be the first time the current administration has defied the SC. https://t.co/EuiWzfyDyU
While I disagree with the policies of NPP & believe that Sajith is the election frontrunner, no politician has the right to "allow" or "not allow" a candidate to be elected. Such statements have dangerous undertones considering SL's history of election interference and violence.
Sri Lanka FDI update: After 10 months of trying, we gave up on $14M in private equity investments in Sri Lanka. There is absolutely too much pain and suffering we have to endure in SL when there are so many other opportunities around the world.
I did my best. Sri Lanka has a long way to go to become friendly towards FDI.

There is a process which has started in this @ParliamentLK, very unfortunate. A few months ago in the #OnlineSafetyBill, we showed that several matters that were determined to require a 2/3 majority were passed in this #Parliament with a simple majority & had been made into law. This is a trend for the first time this has happened. Now this is the second time yesterday the #President came & said that we don't have to follow this determination. This is a very serious trend he is pushing. The reason we suspect is that very soon, a piece of legislation is going to be introduced to this house to amend the term of the President & Parliament to extend it to six years. - @MASumanthiran #SriLanka #Parliament #SLnews #Colombo
In the month of March, I attended a meeting with the #President. While I attended the meeting, you said you'd give it, then you tweeted this, then you came to this house & said it'll be given. Three months have lapsed, & the Technical Reports to the @IMFNews have not been given. So I am raising a very serious concern. I don't want this also to be added to the list of things you promised to deliver & never delivered. @MASumanthiran #SriLanka #Parliament #SLnews #Colombo
For the record, neither my mother nor I are associated with this.
If he were alive, he would say: “Improve educational standards, address issues in agriculture/fisheries, provide access to expertise and generate career opportunities in new markets for the youth of Digamadulla.”
How did Indian company take over visa issuance at BIA without cabinet approval?
Chaos broke out at the BIA last night following the controversial takeover of the on-arrival visa issuance process at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) by an Indian company. This company has been charging an extra $25, whereas the Immigration and Emigration Department had been managing the process smoothly for several years.
Here is how the politically bankrupt #Ranilists prevented me from questioning @RW_UNP on his IGP appointment 😂 Is this the democracy of the #UNP? Ranil and his Ranilists, talk like Putin here on X, but in reality works like Tintin 🤣 Where is his #Accountability#RuleOfLaw? #lka
Former President Chandrika Kumaratunga says Sri Lankans have become a community that worships everyone, even crooks.
She says Sri Lanka must stop the practice of worshipping everyone.
The former President also accused the Rajapaksas of being responsible for pushing Sri Lanka towards bankruptcy.

…grabbed power…after July 2022, there is little hope for such accountability,…. In the very least, that monumental struggle, despite its failures, launched by the starving masses of this country in 2022 should not be allowed to be desecrated as a conspiracy.// 2/2
Extending his long-standing call for justice for victims of 2019 #EasterAttacks, Catholic Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith calls for "accountability process for victims... of atrocities in the north and east of #SriLanka". Significant shift for former critic of UN Human Rights Council.
Some (all?) of the money the #SriLanka govt is spending on preparation for a “Truth” commission that few (esp those most affected by war) want would be much better spent exhuming & investigating the #Kokkuthoduvai & other mass graves.
Govt’s spending make its priorities clear.
MP Rohitha Abeygunardena tried to assault me in parliament a short while ago. This happened in the Prime ministers office within the parliament complex. I have raised a privilege issue and am concerned for my safety as he has threatened to assault me outside parliament as well.
