Made the worst decision of flying with our so called national airline @Official_PIA. Was supposed to take off at 3:15 PM, delayed to 4:10 PM then 6:50 PM and now 8:50 PM that means we will have to wait for 9 hours altogether. 9 hours wait for a 3 hour flight. Imagine!

10 years ago when Mahindra set up their tractors assembly plant in Ogun Industrial state near our home in Nigeria, I asked dozens of people in Pakistan who work in this sector to come to Nigeria.
But as usual, they were interested only to export but not to set up an assembly plant or a distribution setup.

There is no reason investment cannot come to Pakistan too. At 250 million people, this is the 5th biggest market, and it has plenty of talent. But we have to think different, permanently.

Investment will not come by shutting the internet for 5 days, whenever the govt feels like it;
or by disallowing corporate profits to be repatriated because we don't want to pay the political cost of fixing the economy;
or by manipulating the exchange rate as Ishaq Dar has been doing, so investors operate in the greatest uncertainty;
or by continuing to have a higher education sector that prioritises having a university in every district of the country through a financial model the country cannot sustain, and therefore not having good talent available;
or by disparaging overseas Pakistanis, as Khawaja Asif did, so they stay away from Pakistan;
or by targeting capability we attract to the country (remember the German PIA CEO we accused of stealing a plane);
or by targeting investments already locked in, such as the Reko Diq deal, or even at a smaller scale, how the interim govt in KP is stopping the investment coming in the health sector through the Sehat Card or valid outsourcing contracts.

We cannot attract investment if we keep on sending the signals to investors that your investment is unsafe.

To build the trust of investors and the business community, there is no silver bullet. Trust takes time. But we can start today. Step back from a climate of fear. Decide once and for all, not in words, but in deed, that we will open up our economy, encourage the private sector, and leverage the free market economy.

It will work.
