2019 के लोकसभा चुनाव में 17.4 लाख VVPAT मशीनों का इस्तेमाल हुआ था।

अब चुनाव आयोग ने इनमें से 6.5 लाख से अधिक VVPAT मशीनों को डिफेक्टिव यानी 'खराब' बताया है। यह सारी मशीनें एक ही सीरीज की हैं। एक ही सीरीज की लाखों मशीन खराब होना हैरान करने वाला है।

इसे लेकर पूर्व मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त एसवाई कुरैशी कहते हैं- "कुछ मशीनों का ख़राब होना सामान्य है, लेकिन 6.5 लाख (करीब 37%) की संख्या बहुत अधिक है और यह एक 'गंभीर' मामला है।"

अब एक और बात समझिए

नियम के मुताबिक, चुनाव आयोग को VVPAT की पर्चियों को कम से कम 12 महीने तक अपने पास रखना होता है।

लेकिन... 2019 के लोकसभा चुनाव में VVPAT की पर्चियों को 4 महीने में ही नष्ट कर दिया गया।
