Why the name HarloLabs?

The name HarloLabs is inspired by Hal Finney (Harold Thomas Finney II), one of the earliest pioneers in Bitcoin history.

Hal was one of the first people to download and run Bitcoin after Satoshi Nakamoto and was the recipient of the first-ever Bitcoin transaction between two people, sent directly from Satoshi.

His early involvement represents exactly what we want HarloLabs to stand for: building, experimenting, innovating, and believing in new technology before the rest of the world sees its potential.

HARLO is our tribute to that pioneering spirit, while Labs represents what comes next, researching, designing, and building the next generation of mining hardware.

Hals famous quote is: “If you want to change the world, don't protest. Write code!”

Unfortunately Hal passed away on August 28, 2014, from ALS.

After receiving legal letters from Benjamin Wilson and Onboard Solutions Manufacturing LLC (formerly Open Source Miner LLC) alleging that our unreleased BSB B30 uses "his" ESP-Miner code, we've decided there's a better way to respond:

More openness. Not less.

We're considering releasing our from-scratch miner firmware platform under CC0 1.0, Public Domain.

CC0 means:

→ Zero attribution required
→ Modify & fork freely
→ Build and sell products with it
→ Use it in your own firmware
→ No need to mention us
→ Even close source it if you want!

No permission. No attribution. No strings attached.

Our goal: give manufacturers and developers a truly unrestricted alternative that existing ESP-Miner based hardware can transition toward.

If this gets enough support, we'll release it. 🙂
