TSU’s most iconic landmark is back where it belongs. 💙☀️🐅The cupola atop the Davis Humanities Building has been reinstalled as part of its restoration. To mark the occasion, a time capsule filled with photos and reflections from TSU leadership was sealed inside.
Originally called Decoration Day, Black Americans interred the bodies of fallen Union soldiers to honor their sacrifice — now known as Memorial Day. Decades later, my great-grandfather served our nation in WWI. Then my grandfather took post in WWII and the Korean War. Today and every day, I honor their sacrifice by fighting for rights they were denied in a country they loved, knowing freedom will prevail if we refuse to give up the battle.
On this #MemorialDay we pause to acknowledge, honor and remember those who gave their lives to protect our country. We are grateful for their sacrifice.
House leaders had planned vote on bill to create NIL standard amid chaos of college sports
But CBC said it’d oppose bill unless SEC schools spoke up on gerrymandering in their states — and some calling for Black athletes to boycott SEC schools
Rs are furious and some Ds in a jam:
The historic Alfred Street Baptist Church announced it would fund the Black student government whose funding was cut at Mizzou over DEI restrictions
“We take care of our own people,” said Rev. Dr. Howard-John Wesley.

Think. Work. Serve. 🇺🇸 Today, that call extends to service for our country.
Congrats to the newest officers commissioned through TSU’s Air Force ROTC Detachment 790 - ready to lead, serve, and make an impact in the Air Force and Space Force. The future is in capable hands. 🐅💙
My mother’s words from 1995 remain painfully relevant.
As we face yet another Supreme Court ruling that chips away at the Voting Rights Act, her warning reminds us that voting rights are never secure when justice is weakened and representation is treated as optional. We must not be silent, passive, or discouraged. We must stay organized, educated, and engaged.
The fight for voting rights is still before us.

A major milestone for @TSUCollegeofAG 🏗️🚜
Last week’s topping out ceremony marked the placement of the final structural beam for the new academic and research facility on campus. 💙🐅
What the Tennessee Legislature did is tantamount to theft—the theft of fair representation and the deliberate stripping away of political power from Black communities.
We are working with partners in state legislatures across the South, alongside the legal and civil rights communities, to challenge these maps in court and mobilize our communities to the ballot box.
So, Graceland in Memphis and the Cool Springs Best Buy in Williamson County are in the 9th congressional district bordering Mississippi & Alabama.
But the Graceland Museum and the Cool Springs Mall are in the 5th congressional district bordering Arkansas, Missouri, & Kentucky.
MAGA Republicans are taking a blowtorch to Black representation in the American South.
Donald Trump and Supreme Court extremists are responsible for this carnage.
We will crush them at the ballot box in November.
On August 6, 1965, the Voting Rights Act was signed into law as my father looked on. It was not a gift. It was the result of sacrifice, courage, organizing, and nonviolent struggle.
I believe my father would be deeply troubled by the ongoing efforts to weaken voting rights and make fair representation harder to secure. But I also believe he would not want us to surrender to frustration or despair.
We have work to do. We must organize with discipline, demand new voting rights protections, and continue pressing toward a democracy where every voice is valued and every vote is protected.

My statement about the recent Supreme Court decision on the Voting Rights Act and the call for a special session of the TN General Assembly to redraw our Congressional map.
Today, we broke ground on a $60M, ultra-modern engineering building designed to put our students at the forefront of innovation. The future of STEM is taking shape at TSU.

HB1944 is on the Floor of the TN House today at 2pm. It requires the TN Dept. of Health to test all newborn babies for Sickle Cell Trait & inform parents if the test is positive. The Dept of Health currently does this in practice but this bill would make it law. #loveinthehouse
HB1942 will be heard in the TN House of Representatives today. The bill if passed will make law enforcement aware of drivers who have difficulty communicating if they are involved in a traffic stop. #loveinthehouse
