Each player of the gold medal Uzbekistan team gets US$200,000 from the Government of the country. The coach of the team gets US$50,000.
What is impressive is that the Government has chalked out the details for everything from winning the Olympiads to World Championships, Asian Championships and even getting GM title.
Africa is central to the future of global chess. Its young population, growing chess community and ambitious federations deserve more support. This means more resources to develop their infrastructure, organise events, train players but also enable them to travel and compete on the international stage.
We can achieve this with targeted and planned financing, digital tools to help bridge geographical barriers, and provide more training and development opportunities. Our programme commits to doubling FIDE’s Development Fund, simplifying access to support and guaranteeing more open events in Africa.
But we need to do this together – openly, working with one another. This is why I am grateful to all African federations who engaged with us and our programme and discussed their ideas with us. I value their support and I look forward to a long-term partnership in which African federations have an equal voice in shaping FIDE’s future.

Chess is growing in Saudi Arabia. But also, Saudi Arabia is growing chess and esports in the world, recognising the opportunities ahead.
With a rising number of players and tournaments, the Saudi Chess Federation is doing a great job on the national level. Their players have opportunities to grow and become more experienced, while Saudi coaches, arbiters and officials are building experience and running a highly effective chess federation.
But Saudi chess is also contributing internationally. This year, Federation President Mohammed Al-Masoudi joined the Executive Board of the Asian Chess Federation and was appointed Chairman of its E-Chess Committee.
This focus on participation, stronger national federations and the opportunities created by technology and international cooperation resonates strongly with the ideas my team and I have put together for FIDE. I am therefore grateful to Mohammed and our colleagues in Saudi Arabia for their support. I am excited about the opportunities ahead and the great work that we will do together for chess!

Big win for chess media!
I know how hard it is to tell stories that attract people.
But this announcement from Mr Timur Turlov's campaign for FIDE Presidency matters a lot.
More additional funding for building digital channels and sponsorship materials means more chess in public!
My new interview with @mustreader is now online.
On the future of FIDE, the challenges facing chess today, and the ideas behind his campaign.

❗️Visa Issues for FIDE Congress Delegates Resolved❗️
FIDE is pleased to confirm that the visa issues affecting several delegates travelling to the FIDE Congress in Samarkand have now been resolved.
Following FIDE’s earlier communication on the matter, the situation received the highest level of attention from the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and was addressed in close cooperation with the Local Organizing Committee.
As a result of these efforts, all affected delegates have now received their visas and are on their way to Samarkand to attend the FIDE Congress.
FIDE expresses its sincere appreciation to the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and to the Local Organizing Committee for their prompt response, close coordination and assistance in resolving the outstanding cases.
❗️FIDE COUNCIL STATEMENT on visa issues for delegates of the FIDE Congress❗️
Today, the first round of the 2026 Chess Olympiad has begun. FIDE is grateful for the organizational efforts of the Uzbekistan Chess Federation and the Olympiad Organizing Committee, headed by Mr. Aripov, Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan. FIDE is confident that the Olympiad will become a true celebration of chess on the ancient land of Samarkand. At the same time, unfortunately, a number of players and participants of the FIDE Congress have not yet received the necessary visas. This includes a number of Congress delegates entitled to vote in the upcoming elections, as well as a member of the highest executive body — the FIDE Council — Mr. Benard Wanjala. The FIDE Council expresses confidence that the relevant technical issues will be resolved, but considers it its duty to state that the Congress can be held only under conditions in which all persons entitled to participate and vote can exercise their right. Should the rights of delegates and members of the FIDE Council not be protected and guaranteed, the FIDE Council, in accordance with the FIDE Charter, will consider relocating the FIDE Congress to other dates and location.
❗️FIDE Statement on Accommodation Issues at the 2026 Chess Olympiad❗️
FIDE notes with deep regret that, during the first day of the 2026 FIDE Chess Olympiad, shortcomings in the accommodation arrangements left some teams without proper accommodation, forcing them to rent rooms in the city at their own expense.
Although accommodation matters fall within the remit of the local Organizing Committee, and FIDE has no authority in this regard, FIDE nevertheless considers it its duty to assist the federations affected by this situation.
Accordginly, FIDE has found additional financial resources and officially confirms that all teams which had to secure their own rooms will be reimbursed for the cost of accommodation of the appropriate standard, for a period of up to three days.
In addition, all teams that are forced to stay in official hotels that do not meet FIDE-approved standards during the Olympiad shall receive an additional compensatory payment from FIDE.
FIDE deeply regrets that these organizational problems occurred and apologizes to the affected federations and teams. While the shortcomings arose at the level of the Organizing Committee, FIDE's priority is to ensure that no federation suffers financial losses as a result.
Our fundamental objective remains clear: every participating federation must be treated fairly and provided with the conditions established for the Chess Olympiad.
51 Moroccan chess content creators , And counting!
3 years ago, you could barely find Moroccan Chess content online.
Today we have 51 creators making content in Darija, Arabic, English and French.
This is a first for our country, and a great start for chess growth in Morocco.
I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.

To the young generation: Please STOP being a consumer of information produced by others, START upgrading yourself, your skills (mental, emotional, physical, techinical), LEARN all the good things that are their to learn so you can apply them, avoid the bad things.
Do not expose yourself to too much information on a daily basis (videos, photos, sounds) as our mind is not capable to process too much information at such a young age.
Most of the information is designed to simply tickle our senses and provide us momentary pleasure but we will loose the ability to filter the good from bad and simply become reactors to information we receive. They make us an emotional wreck and affect our ablity to interact with fellow humans.
Too much information going into our system reduce our ability to listen and learn, reduce introspection skills, reduce patience levels, affect attention span, and make us jumpy, irritable, bored and restless.
Not more than 10 to 15 minutes per day of social media could be practised. Go out and play with friends all kinds of sports, crack jokes, laugh together, discuss, debate, argue, refute ideas. Otherwise read books, listen to music, do painting, go for a walk, water the plants in the garden, be with nature.
