@ArableSam Should be enough time to break the take all between the barleys somewhat. Ditto for us with the catch crop. Even more appealing with the SFI summer cover crop! What drill will you go in with for the barley?

@ArableSam Going into which crop? Our covers after winter barley are also looking well. A very suitable summer for them! Always hard to quantify success in a season. We’ve been on this cover crops, direct drilling for 7/8 years now and it’s really starting to show now on all fronts!

Certainly the best year we’ve had for CC’s. Plenty of DM before winter this year. With an abundance of Pea aphids on the vetch’s! Should be a tasty meal for some 🐑 in the new year. Amazing what day length and moisture can do.

@adam_farming Yes, often is. Spring oats benefit from early drilling. So maybe a light disc in feb following by drilling might be worth a go?

@adam_farming I’d consider a multi species cover crop before spring oats to be a better break than winter oats. Isabel is a marked improvement on bushel weight in the spring oat sector 👍

Cover crop biomass soon to be recycled by some 🐑. Legumes seem to be fixing some valuable fertility. Cost V ROI seemed very marginal 7 years ago, today it seems a no brainier! Still hard to quantify mind you.
