Professors and faculty have expressed the unnecessary measures that police officials have taken which does not allow them to make these haste decisions and start arresting them. The situation itself helps understanding the deepening tensions on specifically arising on campus.

At Columbia University, the string of protests from students and faculty has evolved to many being arrested strictly from the institution. For the past week, pro-Palestinian protests have been occurring on the grounds of Columbia’s campus.

When police officers were brought to the scene where they claimed, “the protests were appearing to being violent”, many protesters therefore were cemented to honoring their tribute to fighting for Palestine. With officers intervening in stopping the assumed “violence."

Many protesters took to social media to cover the situation and display solidarity to fellow protesters at Columbia. Currently, Yale University has not offered a statement following the events that unfolded.

On April 22, 2024, Yale joined the ever-growing list of prestigious universities taking physical action against pro-Palestinian protests. As of April 22nd, The university and New Haven Police have arrested 47 protesters.

Yale University and the Chief of the New Haven Police Force stated that they had issued multiple requests for the protesters to leave and began making arrests when the protesters disregarded those requests.
