Batter reaches via ball four. Advances to 2B via stolen base taken easily because pitcher is too slow to the plate and does not vary their hold times. Advances to 3B on a wild pitch. Scores on an E6. Pitcher complains about error. If this is you...Time to make some adjustments.
Some dream about being great while others work their butt off every single day to be great. They usually aren’t the ones out partying, don’t get involved in SM drama & have a circle around them that supports them. Some call success luck but the experienced see what’s happening.
Our biggest weakness is accountability. It’s always someone else’s fault. It happened because so and so screwed up. We are in this situation because so and so put us here. Blah blah blah. Finger pointing is a horrible personality trait. Be different. Stop passing the buck.
Q: What should a pitcher do if they aren’t getting regular bullpen work between games?
A: Take responsibility for your own preparation. Stop waiting for someone else to tell you when it’s time to work. Develop a routine & stick to it. No excuses. No blaming. Be accountable.
Son, let’s be clear on something. When you’re more concerned with what the gun says than how many ball 4’s you’ve just thrown, you’re not a competitor. You’re not a pitcher. You’re just some guy who throws hard trying to pose as a pitcher. Learn to pitch if you want to last.
Arm care isn’t just band work. It’s proper mechanics, strength training, pitch count progression, proper rest, off season throwing routine, bullpen work, proper warm up, post throwing exercises and understanding what an arm is ready for and what it’s not.
Learning how to deal with outside voices that have negative things to say about your performance and ability is a part of this game and a part of life. It’s a choice to take those opinions and get embarrassed, whine, complain & get emotional or to use them as fuel to get better.
Sports Parents: Nobody likes to watch their child struggle, lose or fail ... But it’s a part of sports AND it’s a part of life.
Don’t try to prevent your kid from failing, teach them how to work through and overcome failure so they develop resiliency for life!
Weakness is thinking others are responsible for your preparation, failures, health, choices and short comings. Your victim mindset IS the reason for your constant state of fear, anger, hate and excuse making. Until you take responsibility for all of it, you will keep falling.
If you’re tired of not performing better, evaluate, find your weaknesses (there’s a great chance it’s much more than a mechanical thing) and spend more time in those. Stop waiting for others to push you to work. It’s up to you where you go from here.
If you’ve played for a coach that ran a disciplined program, held you accountable and pushed you out of your comfort zone to get the best out of you, you’re lucky. Coaches who hold you to a higher standard believe in you and know you’ve got untapped potential.
Sports Parents: Teaching your kids that they should always get to play where THEY want, when THEY want and how THEY want isnt helping them....It’s teaching them to be uncoachable & to act entitled. If you really want to help your kid teach them earn EVERYTHING themselves.
