I must admit, I’m genuinely shocked — and deeply disappointed — to see @Netflix backing a project centred around Simon Cowell and his company, particularly one that so casually repositions him as the architect of “the next global boy band” without any meaningful acknowledgment of the unresolved harm tethered to his legacy.

This is not just about creative direction or entertainment. This is about accountability. We are living in a time where the world claims to value truth, transparency, and justice. Yet here we are, watching the same names—names linked to systemic exploitation in the entertainment industry—being platformed and glorified without investigation, without reform, and without so much as a public reckoning.

There are serious and historic allegations surrounding Cowell’s companies and the environments they cultivated—allegations that span manipulation, psychological coercion, legal entrapment, and breaches of duty of care. I’ve spoken out publicly about my own experience, as have others who, like me, were chewed up and spat out by a machine designed to commodify human vulnerability for profit. Those accounts haven’t disappeared. They haven’t been disproven. They’ve just been ignored.

For Netflix—a platform that prides itself on bold storytelling and cultural conscience—to fund and broadcast a rebrand of this magnitude, without acknowledging the very real and very human cost of what came before, is not just troubling. It’s dangerous. It sends a message that celebrity status absolves you from scrutiny, and that power will always find a way to reinvent itself, no matter the damage left in its wake.

We must stop treating fame as a proxy for virtue. We must stop framing legacy without consequence.
