@BemertonHeathFC 76’ Harry Dillon makes yet another brilliant save from close range to deny Christchurch a third. An excellent game from the keeper today despite the scoreline.
Match Report:
Off the back of a big win against Hamworthy Rec, Bemerton Heath Harlequins went into this a team with renewed confidence and it showed.
Christchurch piled the pressure on from minute one but for every time they went forward Bemerton had an answer. Operating with a back five the hosts set up to soak up the pressure after conceding almost in the first minute last time the two teams faced. For the first fifteen minutes it was all Christchurch until Ryan Griffiths had an effort saved and Harry Guy had his goal ruled offside. Promising signs for the hosts.
Harry Dillon did well to put an end to several Christchurch attacks in the early minutes in assured fashion, his one on one save in the 21st minute set the tone for the evening. However, in the 39th minute a scrappy Christchurch effort found its way past the Bemerton defence and ultimately past the keeper putting the away team 1-0 up.
Not to be kept down Bemmy ended the first half brilliantly, immediately putting the pressure on following the goal.
The story was the same to start the second half, Bemerton continued to pile the pressure on aided by fresh legs from some early second half substitutions. The defence, particularly Kimron Quashie continued to soak up everything that came their way.
A brilliant 64th minute double save from Harry Dillon looked to have kept the hosts within one goal of the opposition, only three minutes later the visitors added a second with a well taken strike across the keeper. At 2-0 the score was in no way reflective of the game itself.
In the 75th minute Tom Hanley, who had been incredibly busy since coming on won himself a penalty giving the hosts a lifeline. Ryan Scott stepped up to take and buried it past the diving Christchurch keeper. The game was well and truly on.
Another excellent close range save from Harry Dillon kept the hosts in it and for the first time it really started to look as if the Harlequins could take something from this.
As the game entered the closing minutes the away side looked to waste as much time as humanly possible, taking every chance they could to kill the game off. It would all be for nothing though… A 92nd minute long ball from keeper Harry Dillon went all the way through to the Christchurch box and fell to the feet of Ryan Griffiths who finished it emphatically to win a hard earned point for the Harlequins.
🌟Man of the match: Kimron Quashie
He may not have had a mention in the write-up but the Bemerton centre-back was quietly brilliant, dealing with absolutely everything that came his way. A brilliant performance, worthy of the point.
@BemertonHeathFC 19’ Harry Dillon out once more to claim another dangerous Christchurch long ball with the Bemmy defence holding up well against anything that comes their way.
Off the back of a crucial 2–1 victory over Hamworthy Rec, Bemerton Harlequins return to the A-Class Arena looking to build momentum as they face 12th-placed Christchurch.
The Harlequins secured their third league win of the season last time out and will be eager to add another valuable three points, meeting Christchurch for the third time this campaign. Bemerton currently sit 18th, five points clear of the relegation zone. A win could lift them to 17th, though Hythe & Dibden’s two games in hand remain a factor in the battle near the bottom.
Christchurch arrive in 12th place, just three points off the top ten, but they do so in challenging form. With only one win from their last five outings, the visitors have struggled to find consistency. It’s a run that should give the home side confidence heading into today’s contest.
Their previous meeting ended in a heavy 6–1 win for Christchurch in the Russell Cotes Cup. However, that result came during a markedly stronger spell for the visitors, and this time there is far less separating the two teams in terms of form and momentum.
One of Bemerton’s key players to watch is forward Chris Kapend, who enters the fixture with two goals in his last three matches. The lively winger has eight goals in sixteen starts this season — a tally bettered by only one Christchurch player. Hayden Wells is another threat, with an impressive five goals from just nine starts.
For Christchurch, Joe Freak stands out as the main danger. With fourteen goals in twenty-four appearances, his scoring record speaks for itself. Bemerton goalkeeper Harry Dillon will need to be at his best to keep him quiet.

Bemerton Heath Harlequins will take on high-flying AFC Stoneham in the third round of the Southampton Senior Cup at the A-Class arena.
The home side advanced through the second round after a home-walkover in their fixture against Sway, and come into this tie having played out a hard fought 2-2 draw against Cowes Sport. Having held Stoneham to only the one goal in their last meeting, the Harlequins should feel confident going into this evening’s fixture.
Stoneham progressed to the third round with a 13-1 win against Sway’s reserve side. They’ve taken 3 wins from their last 5, having only lost 4 all season, a relative wobble in an otherwise excellent season.
With the two teams sitting at opposite ends of the league, the cup provides an exciting opportunity for Bemerton to redefine their season with an opportunity to book their place in the quarter finals.
New signing Chris Kapend has been winning favour from the Bemerton fans, having most recently scored in the 2-2 draw last Saturday. Youngster Hayden Wells could also be a player to keep an eye on with 5 goals in only 9 starts this season.
Despite recent defensive struggles there is still plenty to be excited about for the home fans. Center-back Kieron Quashie has often produced heroic performances. His goal line clearance in the last game against Stoneham is one example talents.
Standing between the sticks is 22 year old Harry Dillon, with 19 appearances he has made more starts than any other Bemerton player this season. Despite the 1-0 loss, one of his finest performances of the season came against today’s opposition, the home fans will hope for more of the same of him this time round.
AFC Stoneham’s top scorer Duarte Martin’s boasts a record of 14 goals so far this season, another Bemmy low block could be the key to keeping the striker at bay.
