US Destroyers struck by Houthi Rebels

Recent reports indicate that U.S. Navy destroyers have been involved in defensive actions in the Red Sea against attacks from Yemen's Houthi rebels. Here are the key details:

On December 3, 2024, Houthi forces attacked two American destroyers, USS Spruance (DDG-111) and USS Stockdale (DDG-106), as they transited the Bab el-Mandeb Strait entering the Gulf of Aden. The Houthis launched at least eight one-way uncrewed aerial systems, five anti-ship ballistic missiles, and three anti-ship cruise missiles at these destroyers, with no reported damage or injuries to the ships or crew.

This incident is part of an ongoing series of attacks by the Houthis targeting shipping in the Red Sea in response to the Israel-Hamas conflict. Previously, on October 19, 2023, the USS Carney was involved in intercepting missiles and drones aimed presumably towards Israel. On other occasions, such as in December 2023, the USS Carney shot down multiple drones, and in early 2024, the USS Gravely had a close call with a Houthi missile.

The U.S. has been actively engaging in defensive actions, intercepting drones and missiles, and considering further responses to these attacks, which they believe are enabled by Iran.
