Honoured to attend the Stroke Association event at Stormont today.
I signed the pledge for a 24/7 thrombectomy service and was moved by stories from Harry Bateman, Clodagh Dunlop and Dr. Ivan Wiggam.
Vital treatment, lifesaving for NI families. #StrokeAwareness#Thrombectomy
Over 40 healthcare professionals, politicians and stroke survivors attended a screening of a documentary about thrombectomy at Stormont to mark World Stroke Day 💜
Last Friday, we gathered with our Participatory Journalism Fellows to mark the closing of this first-ever SCI fellowship. It was a chance to celebrate the important work that has been done - and continues to unfold - through the stories they’ve brought to light. This fellowship was developed in response to the growing threats to independent journalism and storytelling, and to create space for untold stories from marginalised communities to be shared with care and integrity.
SCI’s fellowships are about more than financial support. They offer a platform for changemakers to build lasting connections, solidarity and social capital. We’re proud to welcome this first cohort into the SCI network, and we look forward to launching a new round of Participatory Journalism Fellowships in the coming months.

It is World Thrombectomy Day 💜
Thanks to @NualaMcAllister for raising the issue of thrombectomy on the floor of the Assembly.
Thrombectomy is a game-changing treatment which removes the blood clot after someone has a stroke.
Fantastic news/video report on @BelfastLive website today about the severe lack of wheelchair accessible taxis in Northern Ireland. Big thanks to videographer @Harry_Bateman34 and reporter @janeinator - https://t.co/sJBF7JMOQG
It's simply wrong that this procedure isn't available 24/7 in Northern Ireland. Well done @Harry_Bateman34 on this production, and thanks to @strokeassocni for an invite to it's premiere recently. Please watch this and raise the issue with your local MLA https://t.co/K8q6dhUeaK
Join us for a one night zero commitment choir in support of the Stroke Association on Wednesday 4th June. All are welcome and no previous singing experience is necessary! Click here to register and for more details: https://t.co/c473qjvT5D
I was privileged to take part in a short film making the case for availability of thrombectomy procedures 24/7 in Northern Ireland:

I find it frankly baffling that this service, scheduled to be in place by end 2024, remains time-restricted.
I can't recommend the new film from @Harry_Bateman34 highly enough. If you have 20 minutes tonight stick it on and hear Harry and incredible stroke survivors share their stories from medical emergency and the power of thrombectomy to rebuilding their lives https://t.co/6XzFc4asn6
Stroke survivors and healthcare professionals from across NI attended the premiere screening of a new documentary last night which highlights the unacceptable part time state of thrombectomy services in NI 💜📷

Thrombectomy: Restoring Life, directed by @Harry_Bateman34, tells Harry’s family story after his father had a stroke in 2019 💜
The surgery that saved Clodagh's life is only available in Northern Ireland on weekdays from 8am to 6pm - not 24/7 like in other countries https://t.co/6LKuRMtLdc
