Official Complaint Regarding Misleading Mileage Claims and Abysmal Performance of Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid (Registered No: WB-02AV-9077)

Respected Authorities and Support Teams,

I am writing to raise a formal grievance regarding my Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid, purchased on September, 2024 from Maruti Suzuki ARENA (Bhandari Automobiles, Kolkata, Newtown)

The primary basis for purchasing this Strong Hybrid variant was the fuel efficiency advertised by Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., which officially claims a certified average of 27.97 kmpl (approx. 28 kmpl). However, since the day of purchase, the vehicle has consistently delivered a drastically lower mileage of only 14 to 15 kmpl under normal driving conditions.

This represents an almost 50% drop from the advertised figure, which is completely unacceptable for a premium strong-hybrid vehicle sold at a significant price premium over standard petrol variants.Even considering real-world driving conditions, traffic variations, and air conditioning usage, a drop to 14–15 kmpl in a Strong Hybrid system indicates a potential technical fault, such as:

EV Mode Failure: The vehicle failing to switch efficiently to Electric Mode during low-speed or stop-and-go driving.
HV Battery / Regenerative Braking Issues: High-Voltage battery capacity, charging, or energy recovery calibration issues.
Sensor or ECU Calibration: Incorrect fuel-air mixture mapping or software glitches affecting power delivery transition.

Given that I paid a premium specifically for the Strong Hybrid technology to achieve high efficiency, this discrepancy is unacceptable.

I request you to schedule a thorough inspection of my vehicle at the earliest. Specifically, I require:

1. A complete diagnostic scan of the High-Voltage Battery System, EV Controller, and Engine Management System.
2. A joint Fuel Efficiency Mileage Test (tank-to-tank method) accompanied by your senior technician.
3. Firmware or software updates applicable to the hybrid control module.

Key Issues and Concerns:

Unreasonable Deviation from Claimed Figures: While real-world mileage can vary slightly depending on traffic, a 50% drop points directly to either a severe manufacturing defect in the hybrid system/battery unit or unfair, misleading commercial practices.

Lack of Resolution from Dealership/Customer Support: I have brought this issue to the attention of the authorized Nexa service center during routine check-ups, but no concrete diagnosis or rectification has been provided.

Financial Burden: The decision to invest heavily in a Strong Hybrid was to reduce fuel consumption and carbon footprint. Receiving the mileage of a standard non-hybrid petrol SUV defeats the entire purpose of this purchase.

Requested Actions:

1. For Maruti Suzuki / Nexa Customer Care: Arrange an immediate, comprehensive technical inspection of the hybrid powertrain, battery health, and ECU mapping by senior technical experts to rectify this performance defect.

2. For Jago Grahak Jago & Regulatory Authorities: Intervene to investigate misleading advertising and performance claims made to consumers regarding hybrid vehicle efficiency.

3. Resolution: If the defect cannot be rectified to deliver a reasonable hybrid efficiency, I request a formal remedy, compensation for losses, or vehicle replacement.

I expect a prompt written response acknowledging this complaint along with an action plan within 7 working days. Failing this, I will be forced to escalate this matter to the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) for legal relief.

I did not expect such pathetic service from Maruti Suzuki Nexa. A car at this price having such poor mileage is not worth. I would request the authorised department to take note and resolve the issue that I am facing from the past 2 years.
