As you watch the India-Canada meltdown unfold, points to bear in mind:

1️⃣ The U.S. has to have signed off at some level on Canada’s escalation. Expect more from the Pannun front too.
2️⃣ India has several points of leverage to test the U.S. including a $3.1 billion drone deal that’s on the table, though it’s unlikely to turn any MAJOR screws in that direction.
3️⃣ India’s unsparing counter-attack conveys consistency, but needs follow-up action.
4️⃣ Given the clarity of India’s counter, GOI should go the distance identifying Canadian Khalistanis (from attacks, rallies, dossiers) and cancelling OCIs, confiscating properties in India, freezing a/c, etc. No wasting time on this front.
5️⃣ India has over 250k student in Canada. Must asap clearly convey how they can get help etc & ensure Indian Embassy in Washington lends a hand if necessary.
6️⃣ Canadian Govt bending backwards for Khalistanis is unlikely to care much about the blowback on PIOs, far greater in number than K-terrorists. Steps must be taken to ensure the safety of PIOs.
7️⃣ This is a diplomatic war with Trudeau’s Canada, not Canada in general. India-Canada relations have been overwhelmingly healthy in all respects.
