This severe lack of insight into their own competence is what worries me most about the PA role & their training

When asked how a PA course differs from medicine:

“We’ve been trained to study so broadly & we learn very generally I could go from one speciality to another”

Just to be clear, doctors (after a vigorous selection process) study ‘broadly’& ‘generally’ for 5 YEARS at med school + 2 YEARS foundation training

Thereafter they undergo:
- a further 3 years+ training to become a GENERALIST (GP/ED)
- or further 5 years+ training to become a SPECIALIST

It doesn’t take much common sense to realise that a single 2 year course cannot equip anyone to practice at a level of a doctor AT ANY STAGE.

A High Court Judgment has been handed down which may be of huge importance to disabled doctors who did not CCT at the end of their GP specialty training solely due to repeated exam failure. The Court has found the RCGP's policy on re-sitting the AKT to be irrational & quashed it. I have corresponded with the RCGP about this many times, but never had a client with the means to pursue Judicial Review. Very pleased to see the outcome here for Dr Karmakar.

Reminder to doctors to check your annual leave entitlement.

After 5 years NHS service it increases from 28 days to 32. This does NOT have to be time in training - working as a trust grade or for a staff bank counts.

Trusts are notorious for simply ignoring this by default.
