The one thing thats sticking w/ me surrounding the departure of almost the entire coaching staff. Why cut 7-8 guys that you didn’t want to go with you before you split? Doesnt mean they would have worked out or wanted to stay. But, why show them the door knowing you were leaving?
WATCH: new South Carolina head coach Kevin Schnall had a much different opinion of Columbia just one year ago.
“Thank you [AD Chance Miller and Senior Dep. AD Andy Humes] for recognizing that for them to go to Omaha, they’d have to leave Columbia to come to Conway.”

Would not surprise me to see one or all on the USC roster next season. The DO NOT CONTACT tag is a sure fire give away.

Well, the deal is actually done this time.
With Kevin Schnall, heading to South Carolina, here are a few names that you could hear in the Coastal Carolina head baseball coach search:
1. Chris Lemonis (former Mississippi State head coach)
Lemonis won a national championship with the Bulldogs in 2021, but was dismissed after failing to maintain that level of success. A Myrtle Beach native, and Socastee High School alum, Lemonis is the early speculative front runner if the Chanticleers want a fresh start.
2. Chad Oxendine/Matt Schilling (Coastal Carolina associate HC and assistant)
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Coastal Carolina already has two years worth of case study that proves sticking with the Gary Gilmore tree works. Either one would be a great hire.
3. Nolan Cain (Texas assistant)
One of the best recruiters in the country, Cain is widely considered ready for his first HC position. He has coached under Jim Schlossnagle and Paul Mainieri, has notched eight Top 10 recuiting classes in nine seasons, and has won a national championship as a player at LSU. He’s ready for a shot, and Coastal Carolina can give him one— as well as a perennial top 25 reputation.
4. Skylar Meade/Christian Ostrander (HCs at Troy and Southern Miss, respectively)
Hold on Trojan and Golden Eagles fans, we understand these are unlikely. In fact, it will likely NOT be either of these two coaches. But the track record of success is evident. These names will be thrown around, just be ready.
5. Landon Powell (North Greenville HC)
South Carolina native and a former Gamecock in his playing career, Powell will likely get a look. Amassing a 485-157-1 record with NGU, as well as securing a D2 national championship in 2022, Powell is a sneaky good hire.
