Carole Saab, CEO of @FCM_online remarks that we can’t fund adaptation on property tax alone. “That’s why we were so encouraged to see additional federal investment in adaptation via the @GreenMuniFund.” #ClimateProofCanada#CdnPoli
Zoom in and you’ll see that this is a photo of 15,000 Toronto community members expressing solidarity, love and commitment to the people of Israel. 🇮🇱 Thank you to all the leaders who joined us from across the political spectrum and from all levels of gov’t. Israel will prevail.
As Canada’s largest city, Toronto is seeing up-close the great opportunity and challenges we must address as a growing nation. Great to connect with Mayor-Elect @OliviaChow today, @fcm_online is excited to have her voice around the table at our Big City Mayors' Caucus. 1/2
“The way municipalities are funded has not kept pace with the modern accountabilities of cities and communities across this country,” @CaroleSaab, FCM CEO told @TheHillTimes. Read about FCM’s call for a national conversation on a new municipal growth framework: https://t.co/fKuvUAM7Cs
"It's often in the harder conversations where the most important work happens." FCM CEO @carolesaab recounts an authentic, honest discussion she had with Councillor @MichaelMosesWL at @FCM_online's AGM - and the action it spurred.
A real highlight of #FCM2023AC for me.
We had the biggest opportunity for Indigenous Advocacy I could have dreamed of this Week, teaming up with FCM’s CEO, @carolesaab
Carole Saab provided us with the opportunity to have our voices heard and recorded at the AGM for the #FCM2023AC and her support and voice did us so proud.
With the ideation of around three dozen Indigenous delegates at FCM, we came up with the recommendation and hope of the creation of an Indigenous Caucus within the FCM governance model. When Carole read the idea in my email to her, she literally got this ball rolling in less than 24 hours.
Within that same time period, we had our unofficial inaugural Indigenous Caucus meeting in a private boardroom that Carole booked for us for the whole evening. We had a speaking circle where we all shared our stories, we started our mailing list, and we came up with a handful of actions and goals to proceed with immediately.
This Indigenous Caucus is going to provide many things to the FCM, to the whole country of Canada, and to the Indigenous peoples in every one of our communities.
Look at it this way: the high majority of communities that have no Indigenous representation in their local governance system will now have a source of Indigenous representation by means of the #FCM Indigenous Caucus having a voice that resounds throughout the whole country.
I want to thank the Mayor of Williams Lake, Surinderpal Rathor, for giving me his guidance throughout this process, and Carole Saab for providing the support, expertise and her voice to move this forward. I promise that our initial group within this budding caucus will do all we can to further this project and to include as many of the #Indigenous delegate voices that weren’t at the initial meeting.
We need more and all of the Indigenous representatives in local governance involved, so please have them get ahold of me,
and
please share this video and post.
Despite months of municipal advocacy by the FCM, provincial-territorial associations, and local leaders, the federal government has indicated that it will not be meeting the request to absorb the retroactive costs associated with the latest RCMP collective bargaining agreement.
It’s not that there aren’t scores of amazing women I want to celebrate, progress I’m proud of, or conversations we need to have.
It’s that, honestly, I also find IWD a little exhausting.
Pats on the head when we need feet off our necks. #IWD2023
Wonderful to have @FCM_online board and committee members gathered together in person (and online!) in beautiful Strathcona County, AB. Great conversations about issues that are important to municipalities from coast to coast to coast.
Just shed a few tears reading the final @lizrenzetti Globe column. Her writing and opinions have made me laugh (and sometimes cry) for many years - a voice I’ve always found myself in vehement agreement with. ❤️
So proud of my incredible boss @carolesaab on her first “live” @FCM_online Annual Conference since becoming CEO 2 years ago. And in awe of our powerhouse past and new Presidents @TaneenRudyk and @mayorjoannevdh for leading with such grace. #FCM2022AC was one for the books! 🙌❤️
